Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard could be set for a return to the club in a coaching capacity, according to reports on Sunday.
Paul Joyce of the Express reports that “Jurgen Klopp has paved the way for the former captain to rejoin the club he served with such distinction when he is ready.”
Gerrard is currently plying his trade at LA Galaxy in the United States, but his relatively short stay there will end once the MLS season is done and dusted.
Although the 36-year-old has not officially announcement his retirement from playing football, it is believed he will not move to another club once his Galaxy contract ends.
Gerrard’s potential new role at Liverpool is reportedly still being discussed within the club, but he has already started his UEFA coaching badges.
Should his rumoured return to Anfield come to fruition, it would be another major moment in the midfielder’s unrivalled relationship with the Reds.
He made his debut in 1998, having shone throughout the youth teams, and went on to establish himself as arguably the greatest player in the club’s history.

Gerrard captained Liverpool for 12 years, between 2003 and 2015, and inspired the Reds to Champions League glory in 2005.
In total, he made 710 appearances and scored 186 goals, and the service he gave to the club means a return should always have been on offer.
Klopp is not one to simply cave in in situations such as these, however, so he clearly feels a Gerrard return can only be beneficial.
The German recently echoed that sentiment, saying “nobody should be worried that we don’t have space for Steven Gerrard. Everything will be fine, 100 percent.”
