Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong Implores ICE Agents to ‘Quit Your S—ty Jobs’ at Super Bowl Party, Says Trump ‘Will Drop You Like a Bad Habit… Come on This Side of the Line’

Two days prior to taking part in the Super Bowl‘s opening ceremony, Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong made it clear that football fervor has not tamped down his conscience about current events. During a performance by the band at a Spotify-sponsored Super Bowl party Friday night, he implored ICE agents to resign, saying that they would be thrown under the bus by the Trump administration eventually anyway.
“To all the ICE agents out there, wherever you are,” said Armstrong from the stage, “quit your shitty-ass job. Quit that shitty job you have. Because when this is over — and it will be over at some point in time — Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller, JD Vance, Donald Trump, they’re gonna drop you like a bad fucking habit. Come on this side of the line.”
Armstrong also changed some of the band’s lyrics to reference topical issues. Singing “Holiday,” he changed the words from “the representative from California has the floor” to “the representative from Epstein Island has the floor.” He offered a dedication prior to that same song, saying, “This goes out to Minneapolis.” Additionally, as he has for years now, Armstrong sang “I’m not part of the MAGA agenda” instead of “…part of a redneck agenda” in “American Idiot.”
Video clips of Armstrong’s statements were widely shared from the party, a special invitation-only concert on San Francisco’s Pier 29 on the Embarcadero that was sponsored by FanDuel and Spotify.
Green Day is set to perform in the pre-game ceremony at Super Bowl LX, when the group will “usher generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field.” An exact time for Green Day’s performance has not been given, but the game itself starts at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 PT, with pre-game music likely to be seen in the hour before start time. The full day of pre-game coverage begins at noon ET on NBC.
The Seattle Seahawks will face off against the New England Patriots. Other musical performances set to immediately precede the game include Charlie Puth singing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Brandi Carlile performing “America the Beautiful” and Coco Jones delivering “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Bad Bunny will perform at the halftime show, with that booking being controversial in some right-leaning pockets of America. An alternative halftime show, due to be telecast from an undisclosed location, is being promoted by the conservative organization Turning Point USA, with Kid Rock headlining and country artists Brantley Gilbert, Gabby Barrett and Lee Brice also performing.
Green Day was picked to perform at the Super Bowl in part because of their long association with the Bay area, where this year’s game is taking place, as well as the group’s enduring popularity as a stadium-level act after 35 years of releasing music.
