D.L. Hughley Defends Trans Kids: Nicki Minaj Is “Married to a Registered Sex Offender”

After Nicki Minaj went on a MAGA rant the other day, bizarrely dragging California governor Gavin Newsom for his support of transgender kids, actor and comedian D.L. Hughley clapped back at her and made it deeply personal.
The comedian took to Threads on December 15 with a truly savage post. “Nicki Minaj shouldnt post anything about kids cuz her husband can’t be within 1000 ft of one!” he wrote. “It ain’t Gavin [Newsom] it’s Chris [Hansen] she should be worried about.” The comedian was referring to the famous aughts-era Dateline NBC’s To Catch a Predator host.

Minaj has also been reposting AI content featuring herself and vice president J.D. Vance.
Last week, after Newsom had said he wanted to see trans kids, going on to say “there’s no governor that’s done more pro-trans legislation than I have,” Minaj took to social media to attack him. “Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids. Haha,” she wrote. “Not even a trans ADULT would run on that.” She went on to post a bit of a screed, further aligning herself with MAGA through her apparent friendship with Vice President J.D. Vance.
Hughley’s thoughts weren’t just restricted to Threads, as he expanded on them in a TikTok video that he reposted to Instagram. “I can’t tell people what to post or say but Nicki Minaj shouldn’t post anything about kids, trans or otherwise,” he said. “She supports a dude that is on the Epstein list a thousand times. She’s actually married to a registered sex offender, a pedophile.” He kept on in the clip, making jokes that invoked the rap group Kid ‘n Play as well as the Sour Patch Kids candy and Cabbage Patch Kids dolls.
It appears that Hughley may have conflated the cases of Minaj’s husband and her brother.
Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, was charged with first-degree rape and pled guilty to attempted rape in 1994, serving four and a half years in prison, per the New York Times. Petty was arrested in March 2020 for failing to register as a sex offender in California. He was reported at the time to be a level 2 registered sex offender in New York, which designates a “moderate risk of repeat offense,” and which requires him to be on the sex offender registry for life. In 2022, Petty was sentenced to three years probation and a year of in-home detention after pleading guilty for failing to register as a sex offender in California, as well as a $55,000 fine, according to People.
Minaj’s brother, Jelani Maraj, was found guilty in 2017 of predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering a child’s welfare. The victim was 11-years-old when the abuse began, according to People. He was sentenced to 25 years.
It’s a tough time for the former Barbz out there right now, which is why Hughley’s response was so needed. Make sure to light a candle for the ex-Nicki stans in your life in these trying times.
