Hugo Ekitike has given fans an emotional update on his recovery from Achilles surgery with a heartfelt Instagram photo dump.
The Liverpool striker shared a striking image of himself in the France national team No.22 jersey with tears streaming down his face as he reaches out to touch a shattered World Cup trophy, symbolising his crushed dream of playing at this summer’s tournament.
The 23-year-old was stretchered off during last week’s Champions League quarter-final loss to his former club PSG and has been ruled out for at least nine months, meaning he will miss the remainder of the 2025/26 season and France’s 2026 World Cup campaign.
Ekitike was World Cup-bound and his French teammates and managers have shared their support for him.
