Lewis Hamilton declares he’s thinking about ‘first’ title with Ferrari and not his eighth championship

Lewis Hamilton asserted that he was more focused on ending Ferrari’s title drought, rather than thinking about his eighth championship.

Lewis Hamilton has finally tested the 2025 Ferrari SF-25. The seven-time world champion seems rejuvenated since joining the Italian team. Now, the Briton has made it clear that his goal is to win the world title at Maranello.

Hamilton last won a world championship in 2020. The F1 star came close to winning an unprecedented eighth title in 2021, albeit he lost it to Max Verstappen during the controversial 2021 season finale. Since then, the 40-year-old has waited for a chance to win another championship.

However, now things have changed for Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion asserted that he is focused on winning his ‘first’ world title with Ferrari. So much so, that the Briton has stopped thinking about it being the eighth championship of his career. He further highlighted that a title victory would end the Scuderia’s long title drought.

For me it’s the first. Winning the championship at Ferrari is the first. That’s what I’m working towards. I don’t think about the number eight. I’m thinking about the first championship that the team’s won for some time.

Lewis Hamilton acknowledged that the Prancing Horse has won several titles with multiple all-time greats. As such, the 40-year-old wants to win a championship with the team and contribute to its rich legacy.

They’ve already had many, many world championships, obviously over their history. So for me it’s like looking for that first one with the team and how can I contribute to that.

However, the Briton’s prospects will depend on whether the Ferrari SF-25 has what it takes to battle the likes of McLaren and Red Bull over the course of the season.
