Carrie Underwood Should ‘Keep Her Mouth Quiet’ Amid MAGA Backlash When She Judges American Idol, Says Expert
A music expert says Carrie Underwood should ‘avoid talking about politics’ and keep a low profile as she returns to American Idol amid MAGA controversy
Carrie Underwood should ‘keep quiet’ and ‘avoid talking about politics’ while she’s on American Idol following MAGA backlash, according to a music PR expert.
The legendary country star has joined American Idol season 23 as a replacement for former judge Katy Perry. And while some fans can’t wait to see her take her place on stage, others are concerned after she appeared to show her support for President Donald Trump.
During Trump’s presidential inauguration, the 41-year-old singer took to the stage to sing the patriotic national anthem ‘America the Beautiful’. But despite her incredible voice, many were upset by her association with the controversial politician. And now that she’s making her debut on the reality singing competition, one industry expert has weighed in with his suggestions for the artist.
In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Robert Bradley of Bradley PR + Marketing said: “It’s a very difficult subject, because her appearance is obviously not a good image for anyone who opposes the Trump administration. I’m not sure about Ms. Underwood’s political leanings, but most of the time I prefer that, and for most mainstream artists, I don’t want to know so I can focus on enjoying the music.”

He went on to note that the Before He Cheats hitmaker has remained largely quiet about her political beliefs and agrees that this is “the best strategy” as a musician. Speaking on her participation in Trump’s inauguration, the expert argued that she “doesn’t owe anyone an explanation” and that she could have chosen to perform simply because it was “great exposure” and keeps her relevant.
The expert went on to advise: “Keeping quiet about these things is often the best strategy, because if she does speak up it will just open up a can of worms and can make her situation even worse. Just like at Thanksgiving dinner, it’s always best to avoid talking politics if you’re sitting at a table with varied personalities and opinions.”
He concluded that Underwood is taking the best route when it comes to her current PR crisis and that she should continue to lay low and focus on her talents. Bradley said: “Mrs. Underwood is probably keeping her eye on the ball, which is American Idol, and as with most things people will eventually forget about her inauguration drama and focus on what she has to offer as a judge and performer.”
