It looks like the Lakers traded Anthony Davis at the right time

When the Los Angeles Lakers traded a package centered around Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic last weekend, their fans reacted with amazement and excitement.

But there were a few who weren’t sure if it was the right move to make in the meantime, given the fact that Davis is a superstar big man who brought the team an NBA championship in 2020.

Davis suffered an abdominal strain on Jan. 28 in his last game as a Laker after he had remained mostly healthy for about two calendar years.

He made his Mavs debut on Saturday and was dominant as usual with 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocked shots.

However, he went down during that game with what was diagnosed as an adductor strain. He will now be out for multiple weeks according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Had the Doncic trade not happened, the Lakers would’ve been in trouble in a bunched-up Western Conference.

Instead, they hold a very solid 31-19 record and a five-game winning streak, and they’re in fifth place in the Western Conference with a real chance of moving up at least one spot in the coming days and weeks.

Davis is a great player, and his contributions to the Lakers in his five seasons and change with them shouldn’t be downplayed. But he has always been a perpetual injury risk, and the Purple and Gold won’t have to deal with that risk any longer.
