During the Tuesday, May 20, episode of The View, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin found themselves discussing the ideal way to put on the undergarment.
“You know what I feel like doing right now?” Behar, 82, asked her cohosts. “I feel like letting these girls loose. Back up.”
After causing the audience to erupt into laughter, the comedian proceeded to share a surprising revelation. According to Behar, her longtime friend and cohost doesn’t wear a bra.
“[Whoopi] liberated those girls a long time ago,” she said with a laugh. While Hostin, 56, was quick to describe bras as “torture devices,” Goldberg, 69, explained why they weren’t for her.
“I don’t wear one. I have not worn a bra in 50 years,” she explained during a “Hot Topics” segment. “It’s too uncomfortable, and I don’t mind if they hit the floor! They’re mine.”
Goldberg proceeded to get up from her chair and joke about what she does when her breasts get too low.
“This is what you do. You’re walking and then you go, ‘Hey girl,’” she joked while pretending to kick an object from the ground up to her body.
When Griffin, 35, asked where she puts her microphone on for every live show, Goldberg pointed to her underwear, which appeared to be a black tank top.
The conversation sparked after The View played a clip from the “Reasonably Shady” podcast, where The Real Housewives of Potomac stars Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon debated about the correct method of putting on a bra.
While Goldberg’s latest fashion revelation may come as a surprise to some, the Oscar winner has been open about her philosophy on clothes. Although she likes to get dressed up for special occasions like the Met Gala or an awards show, most of her days are focused on comfort.
“I wish I could tell you it’s deep like that, but it’s not,” she told People in March when asked about her fashion point of view. “If it fits and it’s comfortable, I put it on.”
She reiterated her philosophy during an appearance on Good Morning America in 2018.
“I’ve spent all of my career being comfortable, and people used to get very mad at me because I would wear sneakers to really important kind of things,” she shared. “I would see people looking really pained at these things. I’d be comfortable as hell.”
