Elon Musk is “overloaded” with 17 jobs at once

Elon Musk admits he is “overloaded” with work, with Tesla facing serious challenges. With so much time spent on politics and the Trump administration, is Musk still focused enough to lead Tesla at this crucial time?
Investors worry about Musk’s absence from Tesla

At an internal meeting with Tesla employees in Texas, Elon Musk admitted that he is distracted by too many tasks. “I have about 17 things,” Musk said, showing how busy he is.

Tesla investors have grown increasingly concerned as Musk spends more time in Washington, D.C. as part of his role in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Performance. Musk has previously been known as a leader who is deeply involved with his companies, even sleeping at Tesla factories to oversee operations. But now, his absence is making investors doubt the company’s future.

With Tesla’s sales slumping, its stock price volatile, and a series of setbacks like the Cybertruck recall in the U.S., investors believe that only Musk can solve these problems.

In recent weeks, Musk has been more involved in political events than Tesla activities. He attended a professional golfer’s wedding at Mar-a-Lago with Trump, went to the NCAA wrestling tournament, and appeared at a Trump cabinet meeting.

Flight tracking data also shows that Musk’s planes frequently fly to Washington, D.C., but it’s impossible to determine for sure whether he was on the flight. Still, investors are clear that Musk has spent much of his time away from Tesla recently.

“No one expected Musk to spend so much time on politics,” said analyst Dan Ives. “It’s taking up all of his attention.”

Is Tesla Paralyzed Without Musk Directly in Charge?

Unlike SpaceX or X (formerly Twitter), Musk has never appointed a CEO for Tesla. He has always considered Tesla his “brainchild,” and this is hindering decision-making at the company.

Ross Gerber, a major Tesla investor, believes that Musk’s absence is making Tesla employees nervous about making decisions. “No one dares to make a decision for fear that Musk will disagree. This leads to management paralysis,” Gerber said.

Musk used to have a very direct leadership style, often discussing self-driving technology with engineers at Tesla’s offices. However, as he has increasingly devoted his time to politics, investors are concerned that Tesla will struggle without a real leader.

Tesla’s internal meeting last week may be a sign that Musk is aware of the concerns of employees and investors. Dan Ives believes this is the first step in Musk’s refocusing on Tesla. “He’s read the uncertainty. Now the question is whether he’s really going to take some time off from politics.”

However, Ross Gerber is less optimistic. He believes Musk has entered a new phase in his career and no longer wants to return to Tesla as he once did. “He’s gone too far. He has bigger things on his mind, like ‘saving the world’ in his own way,” Gerber said.

Regardless of whether Musk returns to Tesla, the company is at a critical juncture. Without clear leadership, Tesla could struggle to maintain its position in the electric vehicle market.
