Tiger Woods is a golfer who holds more than a few records in the game but every so often a stat pops up that blows everyone away again.

With news of Woods getting yet more surgery this week, golf fans around the world will be reminiscing about the 15-time major winner and what are his greatest ever moments.

As we know, Woods holds the record for most PGA Tour wins alongside Sam Snead, while his time as world number one is likely to never be surpassed.

However, sometimes, a stat will come along that once again emphasises just how good Woods was in his prime.

How Tiger Woods achieved what 800 other golfers couldn’t

Those who have watched Tiger Woods a lot over the years will attest to the fact that there have been times when his golf game has looked a bit all over the place.

Woods’ ability to hit the ball further than anyone and his willingness to take on near impossible shots, would often lead to errors and scores over par building.

However, Woods was also a great scrambler and over his career, he made a habit of getting up and down to an exceptionally high level.

Now, in an impressive statistic shared by the PGA Tour, Woods’ ability to get himself out of a mess has been highlighted with the fact he was the only golfer between 2003 and 2019 to start with three holes over par in a row and go on to win a tournament.

The fact another 800 players attempted it is quite something.

Even more interesting is the follow-up fact which shows that 92% of those 800 finished over par, while Woods shot six under.

Quite simply, that level made him nearly impossible to live with and it’s little wonder that in the 2000s, Woods was such a dominant force.
