Ella Langley To Release Highly-Anticipated, Miranda Lambert Co-Write, “Choosin’ Texas,” Very Soon

Coming real soon.
It’s been a year full of ups and downs for Ella Langley. Riding the highs of the continued success of “you look like you love me,” the Alabama native has continued her path to superstardom over the past 12 months, notably taking home five ACM Awards this past April and leading all artists with 6 CMA Award nominations at the upcoming ceremony in November. With that being said, however, she hit a major road bump towards the end of the summer when she had to cancel a month’s worth of shows due to ongoing health issues.
Now that she’s fully healthy and back on the road once again, fans everywhere are more than ready to not only see her back on stage but to hear new music from the “weren’t for the wind” singer after the massive success of her sophomore effort, hungover.
A few weeks ago, during her performance at the Live At The Station festival in College Station, Texas, Langley dropped the bomb that fans can expect one or two new tracks before the end of the year. Before performing her highly anticipated unreleased song, “Choosing Texas,” she said:
“There will be maybe one or two off of it this year. This might or might not be the next one… or the first one, I guess.”
Flash forward to last night at her sold-out set in Durant, Oklahoma, at Choctaw Music Fest, and Langley confirmed that not only is “Choosin’ Texas” going to be the lead single off of her upcoming album, it’s coming out next Friday, October 17th.
Before performing the song to the crowd in Durant, Langley revealed that she wrote the song with none other than Miranda Lambert at a writer’s retreat last October, noting how incredible it was to write with one of her musical heroes.
“I’ll tell you what, I’ve been such a massive fan of Ms. Miranda Lambert, and it’s been the coolest thing to get to become friends the last couple years. I mean, come on. You just look up to her. She’s a legend; she’s an icon. She’s an incredible songwriter, and I’ve always wanted to write a song with her.
It was a year ago this month. I got my first opportunity to write with her. We were on one of these things called a writer’s retreat, where you take a couple of your favorite people and you just sit down for however many days and write songs. And hopefully some of them are good.”
Langley then went on to discuss how the track came to be. As she recalls, they had already written another song as a warm-up. Getting more comfortable writing together. After that, the “Kerosene” singer then proceeded to tell her a crazy story about a former ex. In response, Langley would tell Lambert that he probably said, “She’s from Texas, I can tell.” And from there, the song’s hook was born.
“We had already written one and got comfortable enough. By this next one, she was telling me some funny story about her. You know Miranda’s from Texas. She said she did something crazy or silly or who knows what Miranda did. She’s like, ‘Of course, I have Texas plates on the back of my vehicle. And I said, ‘Well, I’m sure he was like, ‘She’s from Texas, I can tell.’ And us being songwriters, I think it just hit us like a bag of bricks… We came up with this right here, and we’re putting it out next Friday. This one’s called ‘Choosing Texas.’”
“Choosin’ Texas” will be available wherever you stream music next Friday, October 17th.
