Travis Kelce had one of the toughest nights of his career on Sunday, watching his Kansas City Chiefs suffer a crushing 40-22 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. However, the pain wasn’t just on the field-Kelce was also deeply hurt after witnessing his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, getting booed by Eagles fans inside the Superdome.

While Swift attended the game to support Kelce, the overwhelmingly pro-Eagles crowd greeted her with mocking jeers when she appeared on the jumbotron, adding insult to injury on an already difficult night.

Kelce’s heartbreak over the boos

A source close to Kelce revealed to DailyMail.com just how much the moment affected the Chiefs tight end.

“Travis was aware of Taylor getting booed and he felt helpless,” the insider said. “Seeing the look on her face got to him. He always protects her, and it broke his heart. He was already having a tough night, and the fact that the stadium was predominantly Eagles fans didn’t help.”

Kelce, who knew Swift was hurting, reportedly felt that the reaction was unnecessary and unfair, especially given her Pennsylvania roots.

Many Eagles fans apparently saw Swift as a “traitor” for supporting Kelce and the Chiefs, despite the fact that she had previously worn Eagles gear before dating him.

Adding to Kelce‘s frustration, Donald Trump took a swipe at Swift after the game, posting that she had a “tougher night than the Chiefs“.

“Travis believes it was unnecessary for Trump to take a dig at her, especially after he voiced that he was honored for a president to be there,” the source continued.

Swift‘s booing incident only made an already difficult week worse for the couple.

Just days earlier, Swift was shut out at the Grammy Awards, missing out on some of the biggest honors of the night. Then, Kelce and the Chiefs‘ hopes of making history by becoming the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls were shattered by a dominant Eagles performance.

“After Taylor being shut out for a Grammy and Travis losing the biggest game of the year, it just hasn’t been a good week for them. But he knows that even though this is not a happy ending to the season, having her love gives him so much joy,” the source added.
