Phil Mickelson has sent Tiger Woods a 50th birthday message on social media.

Phil Mickelson Beats Tiger Woods in Sudden Death to Win $9M

Woods has received birthday wishes from many world-class golfers, including Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.

Meanwhile, some of the biggest stars from other sports, such as Magic Johnson and Michael Phelps, have also sent him messages.

However, golf fans may not have expected Mickelson to contact his former arch-rival.

Phil Mickelson sends a happy birthday message to Tiger Woods

Phil Mickelson was Tiger Woods’ closest competitor during the prime years of their careers.

Woods dominated the sport like no other player in history, but might have broken even more records if not for Mickelson.

Yet, despite their fierce rivalry and supposedly frosty relationship, it seems that the pair have plenty of respect for one another.

Indeed, Mickelson put his LIV Golf allegiance to one side to send Woods a birthday message.

He posted on X: “Wishing Tiger Woods a happy 50th birthday. His contributions to golf are numerous and appreciated by all who love the game.”

When Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods could compete against each other again

Having had many close battles in the 2000s, Woods and Mickelson have not competed against each other for several years.

Mickelson’s move to LIV Golf and Woods’ injury troubles have kept them apart since their head-to-head match in 2018.

Unfortunately, due to Woods’ ongoing rehabilitation, it seems unlikely that they will cross paths anytime soon.

The best chance for them to lock horns again would be in a major championship later this year or in 2027.

Alternatively, if both players were to join the PGA Tour Champions one day, they would tee off together on a fairly regular basis.
