Tiger Woods could soon be dropped from the Official World Golf Ranking.

After multiple years of injuries and surgeries hampering his chances at a return, Woods may suffer further humiliation due to his prolonged absence.

Woods has not rolled a putt in a professional golf tournament since the second round of the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon.

He hasn’t reached the final round of a tournament since the 2024 edition of The Masters. For the last top-ten finish, you have to go all the way back to the 2020 edition of the Farmers Insurance Open when Woods finished tied for ninth at Torrey Pines.

So long is Woods’ absence that he’s fallen to a career-low on the OWGR of 2,590th.

But it’s not his career-worst mark that could lead to him to being left out of the database.

Woods is set to become unranked in the system ‘in Week 29, 2026’ – the same weekend of the 154th playing of the Open at Royal Birkdale – according to Today’s Golfer.

The report says that the OWGR works on a two-year ‘ranking period’.

Therefore, if Woods does not play in an OWGR-affiliated event between now and mid-July, he will no longer have a world ranking.

To rectify this, Woods could play in any of the four majors, a regular PGA Tour event, or an event on the Champions Tour.

Woods’ most recent recovery updates have seen him chipping and putting in late November, according to ESPN.

However, there is no timeline on a return to competitive golf as The Masters is just about three months away.
