Tiger Woods: Could Achilles injury prompt retirement for 15-time major winner? | Golf News | Sky Sports

Tiger Woods was at the Hero World Challenge at Albany this week, although not in a playing capacity.

Woods is the host of the Hero World Challenge, a tournament the American legend has won on five occasions.

But injury has prevented the 15-time major champion from any action this season, much to the disappointment of many golf fans.

However, despite his lack of playing action at the Hero World Challenge, Woods was still on hand to give many fans a moment to remember forever.

Tiger Woods praised for fan interactions at the Hero World Challenge

Woods signed autographs and spoke with fans in The Bahamas, leading to praise from a viewer on X, who wrote: “Now that was a class act by an awesome champion golfer.”

A second fan agreed, commenting: “King of Sport. Period,” while another commented: “We love you Tiger.”

Other adoring onlookers said: “Lucky fans. Still waiting for my chance even to see TW in person,” and “Still going.”

And other golf fans were in agreement, saying: “Awesome to see,” and “Always better with Tiger.”

It’s clear that golf is better with Tiger Woods around

Woods has largely been limited to keeping up appearances in recent times, having endured another frustrating season due to injury.

He had back surgery and Achilles tendon surgery in 2025 alone, with an exact return date to playing golf remaining unknown.

But one certainty is that the game of golf is much better with Woods in it, regardless of what role he is playing.

Despite his absence in recent times, his stunning efforts over the years make him a firm fan favorite among golf fans of all ages.

“It would be a thrill to see Tiger come out and play the Champions Tour, and I’m convinced he will play several. Depends how many. I’m going to gradually get older and older here, and I may not be at the very top of my game when he comes out, but he always moves the needle. He’s a very exciting personality to watch, and it would be fantastic for Tiger and for our tour to be competing out there, and I think all the players would welcome him.”

Bernhard Langer

“I’ve said, please come play. And I think it can only be beneficial to him. He will get himself in golf shape. You can ride a cart without any shame and if there was one guy that should be able to drive a cart, it’s him… and he can get his a** back in shape.”

Ernie Els

“I think it would be super for the [PGA Tour Champions] if Tiger is able to play. Great for sponsors, tv, etc. And we will all begin our rounds looking for his name on the board. Where is he? Do we have a chance? Hopefully we do, but maybe not.”

Colin Montgomerie

Woods could play on the PGA Tour Champions upon his return, although he may be eyeing one more PGA Tour win.

Such a victory would take him to the very top of the all-time wins list, where he is currently joint-first with Sam Snead on 82.
