The Grammy-winning guitarist explained in an Instagram post that every day is a struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

Grammy-winning guitarist Tom Dumont has revealed that he was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease. As reported by Page Six, he was diagnosed “a number of years ago”.

The No Doubt guitarist explained the update about his health in a video on his

” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Instagram. He explained that he went through the whole process to get diagnosed—going to his doctor and a neurologist. And, after many tests, they gave him the tragic diagnosis.

He explained that while he’s “been doing very well” with things, especially with his ability to play guitar, he explained that “It’s been a struggle. It’s a struggle every day.” He explained that he was very pleased to still be able to play guitar.

Dumont said that he decided to share his diagnosis now rather than when it originally happened in order to “erase some of the stigma” surrounding Parkinson’s, as well as raise awareness.

He also expressed his excitement at theNo Doubtresidency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. The residency starts on May 6, where Tom Dumont will be accompanied by frontwomanGwen Stefani, drummer Adrian Young, and bassist Tony Kanal.

Dumont’s ‘No Doubt’ Bandmates Sent Messages of Support After He Revealed the Parkinson’s Diagnosis

His No Doubt bandmates were quick to show their support in the comments of the video.

Drummer Adrian Young wrote “My friend, bandmate, and hero, I love you brother”. Bassist Tony Kanal wrote “Love you beyond words my friend. Can’t wait to get on stage with you again.”

Gabriel McNair, who has worked with No Doubt since 1993 as a trombonist, keyboardist, and backing vocalist for their more ska-fueled songs, also expressed his support for Tom Dumont. He wrote, “You are such a beautiful soul, Tom!! I love you so much and can’t wait to get on stage with you!! LFG!!”

Other commenters on his Instagram post also offered support. Commenters admired his candidness in the face of such a serious diagnosis. One wrote, “Thank you for the share Tom, we all love you, and appreciate the vulnerability.” Another wrote, “Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing.”
