Charlie Woods Helps High School Win Season Opener Days After Major Body Transformation
Just days ago, Benjamin School’s head coach, Toby Harbeck, shared how hard Charlie Woods is pushing himself to be the best. To step up to that top spot, Harbeck said the 16-year-old has dropped over 10 pounds in the last two years. And it’s paying off, says Harbeck. Woods scored his first AJGA win at the 2025 Team Taylor Made Invitational – and that was just the start of bigger things.
Recently, Charlie Woods and his fellow golfers from the school’s golf team just brought home the gold at the 2025 American Heritage Invitational at Lago Mar Country Club. And here’s the thing – this was their first tournament win of the season. These young guns played tough from the longest tees at 7,036 yards to make their mark.
And this isn’t even the first time Woods has been involved with one of the school’s biggest wins. Back in 2023, Woods was on the Benjamin Schools’ golf team when they took home the State Championship title at a wet two-day tournament held at Mission Inn and Resort in Lake County.
Undoubtedly, this time as well, Woods and fellow young golfers are the stars of a big Benjamin School win.
Their stats tell the story of success well-earned. Scores at the 2025 American Heritage Invitational went like this – they beat American Heritage – Delray 295-333, American Heritage – Plantation 295-300, Columbus HS 295-299, Cardinal Gibbons 295-350, North Broward Prep 295-307, and St. Thomas Aquinas 295-308. A pretty solid win, if you ask us.
And the school takes great pride in it. Congratulating the young golfers on the same, the official athletics X account of the school said, “Boys Golf wins their first tournament of the season! The American Heritage Invitational was held at Lago Mar Country Club in Ft. Lauderdale! Congrats, Boys!”
Interestingly, Benjamin School took home the same trophy last year, too. Last season, Benjamin scored a 286, beating out runners-up Plantation-American Heritage and Columbus, who each shot 302. And, yes, Charlie Woods was part of the team even then. Though congrats on his recent win are definitely in order, Charlie Woods is already (most likely) focusing on the next big thing this week.
Charlie Woods is set to make a statement at TPC Sawgrass
Charlie Woods is gearing up for a big one – the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Junior Players Championship on Aug. 28-31 at TPC Sawgrass’s Players Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. He locked in his spot for the tournament back on July 9. This is the 19th time the Junior Players Championship has been played at the home course of The Players, the PGA Tour’s biggest event.
Woods signed up before the July 15 deadline. Invites went out on July 8. Woods jumped into AJGA invitational eligibility on May 28 after winning his first AJGA title at the Team Taylor Made Invitational at Streamsong Resort. That win rocketed him 585 spots in the AJGA Rolex Rankings from 609th to 14th.
Ranked 13th now, Woods is a headliner in the field of top 58 boys from the Rolex AJGA Rankings, plus some international invitees. And according to Benjamin School coach, Woods is totally prepped for the event. “He’s not just showing up and swinging. He’s preparing like a pro,” the coach said recently.
So, maybe, we are all poised to witness his second AJGA win this week. We hope so!
