PGA Tour sensation Billy Horschel is hitting pause on his quest to add to the impressive $42 million he’s racked up in his golfing career, as he’s announced plans for hip surgery that’ll sideline him for several months.
The 38-year-old pro golfer last swung his clubs at the RBC Heritage in April and was all set to play at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans before a “lower-body injury” forced him to bow out.
Horschel has now made it known that he’s gearing up for right hip surgery, calling the procedure “preventative” with hopes of making a comeback to the greens later in the year.
Having not made the cut for the Masters last month, Horschel might have to wait until next year for another shot at glory on one of golf’s biggest stages, reports the Mirror US.
The PGA Championship is teed up for May 15-18, followed by the US Open from June 12-15, and The Open will bring the major season to a close from July 17-20.
Horschel took to social media to share the update in a video, along with a caption that read: “Health update. After consulting with doctors and my team, I have decided to have right hip surgery early next week out in Colorado,” he penned.
“It’s an unfortunate situation with so many great events left on the calendar but this is a preventative measure. I’m already itching to start rehab, get back to practicing and I look forward to returning to the course sometime around late summer/early fall.
“I would like to thank my family, friends, sponsors and partners for their continued support of me. I will share positive news on my rehab as I progress and I look forward to seeing everyone at the course again soon!”
Horschel has had a rough ride kicking off 2025, with his brightest moment shining at the Valspar Championship in March, where he snagged a joint-fourth place finish.

Targeting a comeback in September, the Floridian golfer hopes to swing back into his winning ways at the BMW PGA Championship, a title he’s lifted twice in the past four years raking in a cool $2.4M.
That same month earmarks the Ryder Cup, chewing at the bit as another stage for Horschel’s return to glory. Perched at 16th in the Ryder Cup points tally, Horschel eyes a spot on the coveted team.
With the leading six from the rankings post-BMW Championship on August 17 automatically on board, the captain’s pick is where Horschel could find his ticket punched for the prestigious event.
