The Family Members That Inspired Riley Green’s New Song “Cowboy As It Gets”

Riley Green Announces 2025 "Damn Country Music" Tour

Riley Green just debuted a new song, and it might be one of the more personal ones that he has ever released. While performing at RodeoHouston, Green performed a new song, “Cowboy As It Gets.” The song, Green reveals, was inspired by two of his own family members.

“I always thought my daddy was a cowboy in a way,” Green explains (via Whiskey Riff). “I always thought my grandaddy was a cowboy. Anybody that worked hard, used their hands, wasn’t scared to say what they believe and stand up for what they believe was a cowboy to me. So I wrote this song. This is my first time playing this song. I hope y’all like it. It’s called ‘Cowboy As It Gets’”

Riley Green’s “Worst Way”

“Cowboy As It Gets” doesn’t appear on Green’s latest Don’t Mind If I Do album, which came out in 2024. But that record does include his current single, “Worst Way,” which just hit the Top 25. The song’s success could be due to the steamy video Green just released.

Fortunately, the woman that co-starred in the video with Green at least wasn’t a complete stranger. Stephanie Ludwig stars with Green in the video, which is her second with Green.

“When you start looking at an actress or model for a music video like this, my thing was I knew it was gonna be awkward,” Green acknowledges. “You’re basically making out with somebody for several hours, and she’d already been in a music video with me. There were two girls that have been in a music video. Stephanie was in ‘In Love By Now,’ and a girl named Brooke that was in ‘If It Wasn’t For Trucks.’ And I just thought, ‘If we could get one of them, ’cause I know them. It wouldn’t be that weird.”

“Worst Way” follows “You Look Like You Love Me,” Green’s duet with Ella Langley. Green also released the title track of his latest project, which was also a duet with Langley.

“This one’s got a lot of different types of songs on it,” Green says of the record. “When you have an album with ‘Jesus Saves’ and ‘Worst Way,’ it’s hard to pick a name for that album. ‘Don’t Mind If I Do’ is such a lighthearted phrase.”
