Standing in their way was a Philadelphia Eagles squad filled to the brim with talent. Ultimately, that talent was too much to overcome for Patrick Mahomes and co.

Now, the storylines turn to what the future holds for the Chiefs. They went from the brink of history to filled with uncertainty in the span of 60 football minutes. The reason for that uncertainty is Travis Kelce‘s future with the team. At 35 years old, a possible retirement had been speculated in the leadup to the game. After the game was done and dusted, a hug between Mahomes and Kelce might hold the key to knowing his future.

Although Mahomes was defeated, he couldn’t help but smirk while dapping up Kelce. This came after the quarterback went up to all of his position players to cheer them up. He was actually so focused on Kelce that he missed Samaje Perine trying to give him a handshake.

Mahomes and Kelce embraced for about five seconds, as they muttered something to each other before Mahomes jetted off. Mahomes patted Kelce on the back with some force, showcasing some pent up-anger.

It’s impossible to know what the two said to each other, but knowing Kelce, he likely said something along the lines of “we’ll be back”. Whether that’s true or not, we will find out soon enough. NFL.com’s Ian Rapaport reported on Saturday night that a loss in the Super Bowl could motivate Kelce to return for at least one more season.
