Stephen A. Smith Destroys Tiger Woods Over His Public Statement on DUI Arrest: ‘We Don’t Care’

Stephen A. Smith didn’t hold back as he blasted Tiger Woods following his DUI-related incident. The Big Cat recently announced that he will step away for some time to focus on his recovery. He also requested privacy during this time.
However, Smith was completely against it, as he had given similar statements in 2017 and 2021. But those statements didn’t do any good, as this was Woods’ 3rd incident. The latest case stems from a March 27, 2026, crash in Florida, where Woods’ vehicle struck a truck before rolling over.
“Bump his privacy. Don’t give a damn about his privacy. You know what? We don’t care right now. You’ve been behind the wheel of a vehicle inebriated three times. Ain’t nobody trying to know all your business. What we want to know is that you ain’t going to get behind the wheel of a damn car when you’re inebriated. You’re lucky you didn’t kill somebody,” Stephen A. Smith said during an ESPN broadcast.
“That’s what we want to hear. Nothing else is our business. Nothing else is our business. I heard Michael Lee on the Sports Channel last night doing a great job, by the way, talking about Tiger Woods and how private he is. Damn that privacy.”
Following the crash, the 15x major champion made a public announcement for the first time a few hours ago. He acknowledged that the situation is serious and wants to step away to come back strongly.
“I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time,” Woods wrote in his statement.
Smith’s argument is simple. He doesn’t care if Tiger Woods has asked for privacy. All that matters to him at the moment is assuring everyone that there will be no similar incident again. And the only way he believed he could achieve this was by hiring a driver and never being behind the wheel when inebriated.
In fact, Stephen A. Smith even questioned why the 82x PGA Tour winner doesn’t want to hire a driver.
“You must have a very highly suspect life that you, as a billionaire, don’t even want to hire a driver,” he added.
He pointed out that Woods has access to several medications because of his injuries and health. He has anti-anxiety drugs, opioids, sleep aids, and more. In fact, law enforcers have found him with these medications in his pocket on multiple occasions.
Even during his latest arrest, he didn’t have any alcohol in him, as the breathalyzer test showed 0%. However, his pocket had some medication, which is why they asked for a urine test that the 50-year-old refused.
While Stephen A. Smith is infuriated, he is not the only one questioning Tiger Woods after the DUI arrest.
The golf world wants Tiger Woods to take responsibility
Several voices from golf and sports commentary have explicitly called for Tiger Woods to face punishment, suspension, or stricter accountability.
Mark Lye, a former professional, demanded that the PGA Tour take action against the 5x Masters champion. Lye called for Woods to be removed from his roles as host of the Genesis Invitational and the Hero World Challenge. He also highlighted the PGA Tour’s morals clause and questioned Woods’ personal discipline on Fox & Friends Weekend, stating, “Enough is enough.”
Former NFL player Emmanuel Acho also slammed the veteran golfer on his Speakeasy show. He criticized repeated DUIs, which is the primary reason why everyone is infuriated. Besides that, Acho also refused “exceptions for celebrities” and implied that jail time would follow.
Dave Portnoy called for briefly jailing Tiger Woods. He said it would act as a wake-up call to help prevent endangering others. Portnoy even expressed no sympathy amid Woods’ pattern of crashes.
Stephen A. Smith’s co-broadcaster, Chris Russo, also commented on Tiger Woods’ crash. He even went on to blame Woods’ close allies, including Justin Thomas, for not intervening and asking the Big Cat to get a driver.
As more voices across the sports world demand accountability, they are no longer leaving Tiger Woods to face criticism from just one corner. Stephen A. Smith expressed the same frustration. He stressed that the situation has moved beyond privacy and into serious concerns about responsibility and public safety.
