Is billionaire Elon Musk’s US Government Efficiency Department no longer active?

A US official revealed that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), founded by billionaire Elon Musk, has now stopped operating even though the agency still has 8 months left to finish its mission.
Time magazine reported on November 23 that the Director of the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Scott Kupor recently revealed that DOGE has been dissolved and most of the agency’s functions have been transferred to OPM.

“DOGE no longer exists. In fact, although there is no longer a centralized leadership apparatus as before, DOGE’s tasks such as reducing waste, restructuring the federal workforce, fighting fraud, etc. have been transferred to OPM. We will coordinate with the Office of Management and Budget to institutionalize the changes that DOGE has made,” Mr. Kupor said.

According to Mr. Kupor, the US government has now stopped implementing DOGE’s federal personnel reduction policy.

Since billionaire Elon Musk left the government, dozens of DOGE employees, including key leadership, have followed the Tesla boss, according to US media sources.

Despite some reports that DOGE still had 45 employees in October and that the agency continued to operate even during the government shutdown, President Donald Trump’s team has repeatedly hinted that DOGE is no longer active.

Since its inception, DOGE has caused controversy by setting a goal of cutting the federal budget deficit by $1 trillion by September 30. Musk and his team have since taken drastic measures, including massive layoffs, funding cuts, and agency closures. However, at the time of Musk’s departure, DOGE was said to have saved the federal government $214 billion, a figure that many reports believe the agency exaggerated.
