Scottie Scheffler’s stand-in caddie, Michael Cromie, has landed himself a huge payday.

Golf’s world no.1 had Cromie step in for his usual caddie, Ted Scott, as Scott deals with a family matter.

Scheffler’s victory at the BMW Championship this weekend earned him a cool $3.6 million, which will also see Cromie take home a career-high payday.

Who is Michael Cromie?

Cromie is the full-time caddie for six-time winner Chris Kirk.

Kirk and Cromie missed out on the BMW Championship after they finished 51st at the St Jude Championship, with only the top 50 advancing to the Caves Valley Golf Club.

“Yeah, it was definitely different for sure. But Cromie was doing a great job. He’s a guy I can trust,” Scheffler told reporters.

“He’s one of Ted’s good buddies. I’d just say it’s pretty much as simple as that. Cromie is a guy that works hard. He does his prep work, and he was an easy guy for me to trust out there.”

Scheffler also praised Cromie for his communication as the pair closed out the tournament in brilliant fashion.

“I felt like we did a good job of talking through our shots and staying patient and keep doing the right things even when things were looking a little bit squirrelly there on the back nine,” he added.

“We did a good job of staying focused and continuing to hit shots at the right targets. Closed the tournament out nicely.”

Scheffler was aware that Cromie was stepping into massive shoes as Scott, who won The Open with Scheffler last month, continues to deal with a personal matter.

Before the BMW Championship, all of Scheffler’s titles had come with Scott, a partnership that began in 2021.

“Ted is at home with his family, and he’s where he’s supposed to be. We’re praying for them, and his family is doing all right,” Scheffler added.

“Cromie did a great job this week. It’s not easy stepping in and trying to fill in for Ted. Those are some big shoes to fill, but he did a great job.

“Him and Ted are good buddies, and I’m really thankful to have him on the bag this week. It was a lot of fun.”

Scheffler staged incredible comeback to win the BMW Championship

Robert MacIntyre let a four-shot overnight lead slip to lose the BMW Championship to Scheffler.

Open champion Scheffler showed his poise on his way to a three-under-par 67, taking him to 15 under for the week.

“When it gets to this time of the year it can be a little bit tiring,” Scheffler said.

“Today was a grind, and I think it just has a lot to do with the intensity we bring to each round and each shot.”

Scheffler on track to beat Tiger Woods’ record

Scheffler continues to hold his place as world no.1, a position he has held for a stunning 118 weeks.

It means he edges even closer to one illustrious Tiger Woods feat.

Woods holds the all-time record for the longest stint as the world’s best player, which was 281 weeks from June 2005 to October 2010.

For Scheffler to break Woods’ record, he will need to hold the spot until October 31st 2028.
