Scheffler has skipped this weekend’s PGA Tour event ahead of the FedEx Cup play-offs.

Despite that, the American will still finish as the highest points earner and top of the FedEx Cup rankings.

In doing so, Scheffler will receive $10million (£7.5m) in prize money along with a further $8million (£6m) for topping the Comcast Business Tour Top 10.

He finds himself ahead of Rory McIlroy on both sets of rankings after an impressive 2025 season.

Scheffler’s total prize money this year will climb to over $37million (£28m) with his latest bonuses.

Neither the Open champion nor McIlroy are featuring at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In their absence, Cameron Young holds a five-shot lead on 20-under-par after Saturday’s third round.

Scheffler will return for the opening play-off event next week, although McIlroy will once again not take part.

The Northern Irishman has not played since The Open at Royal Portrush last month.

Tennessee will host the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis as the first of three play-off events.

The top 70 players on the FedEx Cup rankings following this weekend will qualify for the tournament.

That field will drop to the top 50 for the following week’s BMW Championship.

Meanwhile, only the top 20 players will contest the Tour Championship between August 21 and 24.

Scheffler is the defending champion after winning the event for the first time last September.

The 29-year-old has followed it up with four wins already in 2025 including a pair of majors.

His victories at the PGA Championship and The Open have taken his career major tally to four alongside two Masters triumphs.

Further wins during the FedEx Cup play-offs will earn Scheffler even more with $20million (£15m) purses on offer at the first two events.

Those include a $3.6million (£2.7m) pay out for the winning player at each tournament.
