“Glad She Kept Me”: Reba McEntire Celebrates Her 70th Birthday by Sharing Her Tumultuous Birth Story

Reba McEntire, the “Queen of Country Music,” Turns 70. Feeling a tad sentimental, the “Fancy” singer decided to share her birth story on social media. And as it turns out, Reba’s entrance into this world was not at all quiet or gentle.
“What a Life He’s Given Me”: Reba McEntire Celebrates Her 70th Birthday
Reba McEntire was born March 28, 1955, to Clark and Jacqueline McEntire in McAlester, Oklahoma. “The first thing I thought of this morning was I’m so glad Mama feels better today than she did 70 years ago,” the “I Can’t” singer wrote on social media.
Sharing a photo of herself as a baby alongside a current picture, Reba revealed more details about the day she came into this world. Clark and Jacqueline McEntire already had two children at the time: 3-year-old Alice and Pake, nearly 2.
“Being the rowdy mischievous kids they were, they had Mama so tired that when her water broke in the middle of the night, she changed her nightgown and went back to sleep!” Reba wrote.
When the labor pains only intensified, Clark drove his wife roughly 30 miles from their Chockie ranch to the hospital in McAlester. It did not get smoother from there.
“I was breach so the doctor had to turn me around and get me headed out in the right direction,” Reba shared. “I was a dry/breach birth with only gas to help Mama get through it.”
“After all that, she kept me,: Reba continued. “So glad she did.”
Reba Is Hosting the ACM Awards Again This Year
With the Academy of Country Music’s annual awards show coming up in May, the institution recently announced that Reba McEntire will return as this year’s host.
Ella Langley leads nominations with eight, followed by Cody Johnson and Morgan Wallen with seven apiece. Additionally, Little Big Town scored their 19th nomination for Group of the Year, eclipsing a record previously held by Alabama.
The May 8 ceremony will mark Reba’s 18th year as host, more than any other artist in ACM history.
