Land Cruiser buyers had to wait 4 years, but that’s nothing compared to this model: Deposit was made 8 years ago, but still ‘no news’
Those who placed a deposit on a Tesla Roadster eight years ago have yet to receive any official word on when the car will be released or the final price.
Visitors to Tesla’s website discovered that they can still order the Tesla Roadster today, just as they did eight years ago. Users still have to pay a $5,000 deposit and then pay another $45,000 in the next 10 days to confirm their spot.
In 2017, Tesla revealed a very notable project, the second generation of the Tesla Roadster “electric supercar”. It can be seen that by 2025, the project is still… stuck in the same place as eight years ago.

It is worth mentioning that 8 years is longer than the life of a car model. People were surprised to learn that the delivery time of Toyota Land Cruiser can be up to 4 years from the time of ordering. But at least people know that Land Cruiser is a real car.
The nameplate promised with the most beautiful and impressive adjectives from Tesla is still on paper. Worse, the American parent brand did not mention any factors that show that the car can be completed or launched soon. However, they still accepted deposits with huge amounts of money (and required early payment) as above.
When revealing the second generation Tesla Roadster in 2017, CEO Elon Musk said the car “will go into production in 2020”. That date was then pushed down to 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Last fall, Musk thanked Tesla Roadster depositors for their patience, only to reveal that the car was… almost finished?

When it was first revealed in 2017, the Tesla Roadster attracted a lot of attention because of the impressive parameters it announced. The ability to accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in just 1.9 seconds, run 400m in just 8.8 seconds, a maximum speed of 402 km/h and a maximum operating range of nearly 1,000 km are some examples. However, after 8 years, these parameters are no longer as rare as they were then, and many people wonder whether the car really possesses the above factors.

The full price of the Tesla Roadster was estimated on the company’s website to be between $200,000 and $250,000 before being hidden earlier this decade. However, the real figure could be much higher than that as development costs (if the car is actually still in development) increase due to the extended time.
