The former pitcher said he “never really thought” alcohol was a problem for him. “It was just something that I’ve always done, just something that’s in the game. I went out, partied a little bit, wasn’t always where I was supposed to be,” he admitted.

Mahomes said he saw his father underestimating his alcohol consumption, “because he could always still be on the baseball field” before Mahomes Sr. retired in 2009.

Mahomes Sr. was arrested on Feb. 3, 2024 in Tyler, Texas after recording a blood alcohol content of 0.23 when an officer pulled him over. After submitting a guilty plea in August 2024, he served a 10-day sentence in county jail in October.

In 2018, Mahomes Sr. served 40 days in county jail following a previous DWI arrest.
