Patrick Mahomes spoke his Super Bowl LVIII appearance into existence after predicting he’d make the previous NFL finale in a text message – before the regular season had even ended.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback will lead his team out at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday in a rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles, who they bested two years prior in the NFL finale by a scoreline of 38-35.
Set to have five appearances to his name at the league’s showpiece event, with three victories, Mahomes’ quality has been noticeable since his first year starting when he won MVP after leading the Chiefs to a 12-4 record.
What fans have come to grown accustomed to is the 29-year-old’s unwavering faith that he and his team will become winners. And it was that faith that became public knowledge after his wife Brittany Mahomes leaked a text from the football player who predicted their place at Super Bowl 58.
After the Chiefs came out 25-22 winners over the San Francisco 49ers last year, she released several family texts with one coming from Mahomes, who sent a 10-word message to his wife on January 5 – prior to the end of the NFL regular season.
It read: “I decided we are going to win the Super Bowl.” At the time, the Baltimore Ravens had already secured the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC with the Chiefs having clinched the No. 3 seed in their conference.

Mahomes knew a road trip on the way to a Super Bowl was guaranteed, yet his faith that they’d come good was not shaken despite having not yet played in a playoff game away from Arrowhead Stadium in his career.
Mahomes’ predictions didn’t stop there as on January 28 – after the Chiefs’ 17-10 wins over the Ravens in the AFC Championship – he sent another text to his wife that confidently read: “I’ll see y’all in Vegas, I’m not done.”
With a potential three-peat on the line for the Chiefs, Mahomes, alongside the rest of his team, have kept tight-lipped about the unprecedented milestone. He did, however, comment on Michael Jordan’s two three-peats with the Chicago Bulls with an MLB stint between them, admitting the NBA icon’s heroics will most likely never be repeated in any sport.
“I think at any level, to have that much level of success is crazy,” he told talkSPORT on Thursday. “So for him to be able to win a 3-peat, take time off, come back to basketball again and do it again, that’s something that will probably never be done again in any sport.”
