Petition to Replace Bad Bunny With George Strait For Super Bowl Draws More Than 100K Signatures

George Strait's 'All My Ex's Live in Texas': Chart Rewind, 1987

According to this petition, George Strait better represents “American music’s rich heritage” than recent Grammy Award winner Bad Bunny.

Despite being the most listened to artist on Spotify last year and picking up three Grammy Awards earlier this week, there are plenty of Americans who do not want Bad Bunny to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show this Sunday.

President Donald Trump is among those critical of the NFL’s choice to perform at the big game.

“I never heard of him,” he said back in October. “I don’t know who he is… This guy does not seem like a unifying entertainer, and a lot of folks don’t even know who he is.”

Then someone named Kar Shell went to Change.org to suggest an alternative to take the stage at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. They created a petition to have George Strait perform instead.

What makes the King of Country Music the perfect choice to perform at the Super Bowl? We have the details below.

George Strait “Embodies the Heart and Soul of American Music”

According to the petition, the music at the Super Bowl “should unite our country, honor American culture, and remain family friendly, not turned into a political stunt.”

Strait, who was named a Kennedy Center honoree last year, is someone who “embodies the heart and soul of American music.”

“With over 60 No. 1 hits and more than 40 years in the music industry, George Strait is not only a legend in the country music genre but a staple in American musical history,” the petition reads. “His ability to transcend generations with his timeless songs resonates with a diverse demographic, welcoming both long-time fans and newcomers.”

It goes on to say that “Bad Bunny represents none of these values; his drag performances and style are the opposite of what families expect on football’s biggest stage.”

It is important to note that Bad Bunny is a United States citizen by birth, as Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the U.S., and people born there are American citizens.

During his acceptance speech for Best Música Urbana Album at the Grammy Awards earlier this week, he said immigrants “are not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens — we are humans, and we are Americans.”

How Many Signatures Does the Petition Have?

The petition has over 124,000 signatures and the support of former NFL quarterback Brett Favre.

While it was rumored that Bad Bunny would wear a dress for his Super Bowl performance, it has since been reported that he does not plan to wear one.
