During a recent podcast appearance, Miranda Lambert recalled a conversation with Blake Shelton that led to writing “Over You”

Miranda Lambert Recalls 'Special Moment' She Shared with Ex Blake Shelton

It’s been 13 years since Miranda Lambert released “Over You.” The track hit number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Both Miranda and her ex-husband, Blake Shelton won the CMA Award for Song of the Year due to that track.

And, while Miranda and Blake have navigated rough press coverage in recent years, they’ve also had some wholesome moments. For example, a few years back, Miranda opened up about writing “Over You” with Blake following the loss of his brother, Richie.

“My ex-husband, Blake, had lost a brother and it’s one of those moments where even if you’re married to someone, sometimes you find something new about them,” Miranda said via Apple’s Essentials Radio podcast. “Dudes don’t open up about things, but he started telling me about the experience of it all.”

Miranda then continued to explain how the writing of the process of the song was born out of that conversation.

“And I was like, ‘Have you ever written about it?’ Same thing,” Miranda continued. “And he’s like, ‘No,’ and he was like, ‘Well, my dad just says, ‘You don’t get over it. You just get used to it.’ And I was like, ‘Well, could we write it? Do you want to try or is that invasive?’”

The Conversation Led to Miranda Lambert Co-Writing “Over You”

Looking back, Miranda recalled offering to help Blake write the song. After all, her husband was opening up to her about a traumatic moment in his life. She undoubtedly wanted to help him in any way she could.

“I would never try to write your story because I didn’t live it, but maybe I could help because I’m an outside perspective but I feel your pain talking to me right now….It was really a special moment and I’m so glad we shared that song and that it helped his family heal, to have that together.”

Despite the events that unfolded as their marriage came to an end, “Over You” clearly still holds a special place in Miranda’s heart. And, not just because of its success. But also because of the impact it had on Blake, his family, and likely anyone else who was struggling with loss.
