The Gnarly Injury That Put Miley Cyrus In ICU And Almost Cost Her Leg

Miley Cyrus says her latest artistic venture nearly landed her in serious trouble. Or at least her leg in serious trouble. The pop icon revealed she was hospitalized in the intensive care unit following the filming of her upcoming visual album Something Beautiful, due out May 30.

The Grammy-winning singer described a harrowing health scare that struck just weeks after she completed filming a low-budget music video for the project on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“I filmed this video in October [2024],” Cyrus told Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday. “By November, at Thanksgiving, I was in the ICU, just for a moment.

“My leg began to disintegrate around the kneecap area.”

Doctors diagnosed a severe infection. When asked if she knew the cause, Cyrus recalled having to explain the gritty filming process.

“They open up cadavers. They see inside the gut of humans. And somehow I disgusted this man,” she joked about her surgeon’s reaction.

Cyrus Discusses Scare

To avoid expensive permits, Cyrus and her crew shot the video late at night. “I had a big dream and a small budget,” she said. “Well, I had a pretty good budget, but I spent it all on my clothes.”

The shoot involved her rolling around the star-studded sidewalks of Hollywood. That’s something she now believes led directly to the infection. She even asked Kimmel if he had ever visited the landmark after dark. “I thought it was my last day,” she quipped.

Cyrus, 32, plans to follow the May 30 release of Something Beautiful with a musical film featuring tracks from the record. The visual album marks her ninth studio release and continues a career defined by constant reinvention and genre exploration.

This isn’t Cyrus’ first medical emergency in recent memory. On Wednesday’s episode of the Zane Lowe Show, the singer revealed she suffered a ruptured ovarian cyst while co-hosting Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party with Dolly Parton.

“It was pretty traumatic,” Cyrus admitted. “Extremely excruciating.”

Career Continues to Evolve

Cyrus rose to fame with her double-platinum debut Meet Miley Cyrus (2007), followed by chart-toppers like Breakout and Bangerz. Her smash hit “Wrecking Ball” became her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2013.

More recently, her 2023 single “Flowers,” from the Grammy-winning album Endless Summer Vacation, marked a second career peak, earning her Record of the Year honors.

Something Beautiful, set to arrive at the end of May, continues her evolution as both artist and performer. This one just comes with a few more scars.
