Carrie Underwood found herself in the hot seat after fans didn’t approve of some comments she made about an American Idol contestant.
“I couldn’t stop looking at her baby knees,” Underwood, 42, said to fellow judge Luke Bryan during the Monday, February 2, episode.
Bryan, 49, was confused by the term, so the “Before He Cheats” singer clarified.
“Like when you have a face in your knees?” she went on. “Right after [Princess] Kate and [Prince] William had their baby George, my knees were in a magazine and it was like, ‘Prince George’s face was in Carrie Underwood’s knees!’ And I was like, ‘What the crap is going on with my knees?’”
While Bryan found Underwood’s comment funny, social media users had to disagree.

“I NEVER want to hear ANYONE tell me that nobody notices all the little things I’m self-conscious about because this poor woman is sitting at home somewhere hearing Carrie Underwood say ‘I couldn’t stop staring at her baby knees,’” one person wrote via Reddit.
Another person added, “I felt terrible for her.”
Several people on Instagram echoed the sentiments.
“As if young women don’t feel insecure enough in our society, let’s just make a new one up i guess??” one person wrote in the comments section on Instagram. “disappointing and just strange when there are so many better topics of conversation like her incredible voice and unique ‘instrument.’”
Underwood later responded to the flub via X.
“Oh man, I’m dumb,” she wrote. “Sorry I talk about silly things sometimes. Now my kids want to look at my knees.”
Carrie Underwood Rocks Baggy Orange Trousers On ‘American Idol’
American Idol is back in full swing, and that also means that popular judge and alum Carrie Underwood is stepping out in some new outfits. However, she has found herself in a bit of hot water after last week’s episode.
The country star wore an eye-catching outfit on last week’s episode of the famous singing competition series, which included some trend-setting orange pants. Although fans praised her good looks and style as per usual, other viewers and internet users couldn’t get past the odd comments she made about an auditioner’s knees that they felt were inappropriate. Read more about her outfit and the backlash she’s facing below.
Carrie Underwood Stuns In Orange Pants & A White Blouse During The Season Premiere Episode Of ‘American Idol’
Last week, the super famous competition series returned with the new season 24 premiere episode. Fans were thrilled, especially since the series’ latest judges, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood, returned for some more fun and talent observation.
During the episode, she wore an outfit that consisted of some chic, flowy orange pants and a long-sleeved, satin white blouse. The pants were tailored and fit the vibe of her formal-looking top, which had gold buttons. She accessorized with a large gold necklace and some dangling gold earrings with pearls.
Carries long, blonde hair, which is now a darker shade, worn down and in loose waves, with one section of it pinned back with an embellished hair accessory. Later, on platforms like Instagram, many of her fans wrote about how much they “loved” her look and that she was “looking good.”
Fans React After Carrie Makes A Comment About A Singer’s Knees On Air
Although there have been only two episodes since the new season of the singing competition series premiered, there have been a lot of silly moments. However, one of those silly moments, sparked by the “Before He Cheats” singer, has stirred up some backlash online.
At one point during the episode, Carrie pointed out an auditioner’s knees, which were visible under her dress. She said that the singer had “baby knees,” and compared them to a time when the media poked fun at her own knees, noting that the muscles and bones made it look as though there was baby Prince George’s facial silhouette on her knees. You can see a clip of her comments here.
The comments she made about the singer’s knees didn’t sit well with some viewers, even if the other judges and some other fans of the show thought it was funny. Some internet users went as far as to accuse her of bodyshaming.
“I NEVER want to hear ANYONE tell me that nobody notices all the little things I’m self-conscious about, because this poor woman is sitting at home somewhere hearing Carrie Underwood say, ‘I couldn’t stop staring at her baby knees,’” wrote a viewer on Reddit.
“I felt terrible for her,” added another.
On Instagram, one user called her “strange” comments “disappointing,” and that they felt like that was all they’d be able to look at anytime they saw the singer.
