Rock star Ozzy Osbourne has died aged 76, just weeks after reuniting with his Black Sabbath bandmates for a memorable performance in early July.

A spokesperson for the rock legend’s family said: “It is with indescribable sadness that we announce that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne passed away this morning. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.

When performing less than three weeks ago, Osbourne told 42,000 fans: “You have no idea how I feel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

In his final performance, he joined many close colleagues such as Metallica and Guns N’ Roses.

Ozzy Osbourne and original Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Terence “Geezer” Butler and Bill Ward reunited for the first time in 20 years. Their performance was full of emotion on July 5.

After Osbourne’s death, Metallica posted a photo of the band with Osbourne on social network X (formerly Twitter), along with a broken heart emoji.

Ronnie Wood, a member of The Rolling Stones, also wrote: “I am so sad to hear about Ozzy Osbourne’s death. What a wonderful farewell performance Ozzy gave us all.”

Black Sabbath’s X account was also quick to post a photo of Osbourne from the show with the caption: “Ozzy is forever.”

Ali Campbell, singer of Birmingham-based band UB40, also paid tribute to the rock legend: “Rest in peace Ozzy. The Prince of Darkness. A true Birmingham legend. The undisputed king of heavy metal.

He not only shaped a culture, he evolved it. My deepest condolences to Sharon (Ozzy’s wife) and the entire Osbourne family during this time.”

World-famous music star Elton John also called Ozzy a “dear friend” and considered him a “great pioneer” because he “established his place in the pantheon of rock legends”. Elton John wrote: “He was also one of the funniest people I have ever met”.

Ozzy Osbourne (real name John Michael Osbourne) grew up in England. He is known as the father of heavy metal. He called himself the Prince of Darkness and pioneered the genre with the band Black Sabbath.

Black Sabbath’s self-titled debut album was released in 1970 and entered the top 10 best albums in the UK, and paved the way for a series of later songs. They became one of the most influential and successful rock bands of all time, selling more than 75 million albums worldwide.

Black Sabbath fired Osbourne in 1979 for his out-of-control behavior. “We knew we had no choice but to fire him because he was so out of control,” the band said in a statement.

After leaving the band, Ozzy Osbourne re-emerged as a solo artist with the album Blizzard of Ozz. In 1981, he released the album Diary Of A Madman. Both albums are rock classics.

Later, although he did not work regularly with Black Sabbath, he still had lifelong works, greatly influencing the rock music thinking of later generations. His famous songs include: Iron Man, Paranoid, War Pigs, Crazy Train and Changes.

In addition to music, Ozzy also affirmed his position in the field of reality television with a show about his family called The Osbournes broadcast on MTV in the 2000s. The show revolved around Ozzy’s somewhat chaotic life in Los Angeles (USA) with his wife and two children.

Throughout his career, Osbourne was honored in the UK Music Hall of Fame and the US Rock And Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath and as an individual artist.

He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and 5 Grammy Awards. In addition, he has received many other honors, including the Classic Rock Living Legend award over the years.

Ozzy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and has had other health problems in recent years.

In 2022, he participated in a music show and in early July, he performed at Villa Park (UK). Sharing about the show, the legendary singer said that he wanted to give fans a “perfect goodbye”.

Fans are mourning the loss of a legend. After news of Ozzy Osbourne’s death broke on July 22, fans took to social media to flood his longtime wife, Sharon Osbourne’s, pages with their condolences.

Many fans took the comments section of Sharon’s most recent post to express their grief. Alongside a photo of Sharon with Slash and producer Andrew Watt, which was taken at Ozzy and Black Sabbath’s farewell concert earlier this month, fans let their sadness be known.

“Rest in peace Ozzy,” one person wrote, with another adding, “We love you Sharon!!! Strength to you and your family!”

“Sorry for your loss Sharon. Much love to you and family,” a third fan commented, with a fourth writing, “My deepest condolences to you and your family Sharon. RIP Ozzy and thanks for the joy and music.”

Other commenters called Ozzy “a legend,” expressed their heartbreak about the news, and sent their love to the Osbourne family.

“I never got the chance to see Ozzy or meet him but he literally changed my life and shaped me into a heavy metal obsessed fan,” a fan shared, while another expressed their thanks to Sharon for “all those years taking the best care of him.”
