Lainey Wilson dominates 2025 CMA Awards with major wins

Lainey Wilson wins entertainer of the year at 2025 CMA Awards

Lainey Wilson swept the spotlight at the 2025 Country Music Association Awards in New York, taking home the prestigious entertainer of the year title. Hosting, performing and remaining a central figure throughout the night, Wilson celebrated her win by acknowledging her team and declaring, “We about to party.” She beat industry favourites Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton and last year’s winner, Morgan Wallen.

Wilson’s victories didn’t stop there. She also claimed album of the year for “Whirlwind,” marking her second career win in that category, along with her fourth consecutive female vocalist of the year award. During her speech, she praised women in country music and sharply addressed critics who attempt to pit female artists against one another.

The 59th annual CMA Awards, broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, also saw significant wins for Ella Langley and Riley Green. Their hit “You Look Like You Love Me” earned both single and song of the year, with Langley calling the track “the gift that keeps on giving,” and Green highlighting how remarkable it was for a song with spoken verses to earn such acclaim.

A major emotional moment of the night came when country legend Vince Gill received the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. Brandi Carlile and Patty Loveless honoured him with a heartfelt performance of “When I Call Your Name,” while George Strait presented the award, praising Gill’s immense talent across singing, songwriting and guitar playing.

The ceremony showcased a blend of veteran icons and rising stars, marking another milestone year for country music’s biggest names.
