Kane Brown Responds To Trolls Who Were Mad That He Showed Sympathy For Charlie Kirk: “Just Love Each Other”

Kane Brown

Amen.

Regardless of how you feel about Charlie Kirk’s political views, it should go without saying that shooting somebody because you disagree with them should never be acceptable in the United States of America. Silencing those with opposing views is one of the key components of fascism, which is what those who oppose Charlie’s views claim to be fighting against.

That’s why it was so tragic when Kirk was assassinated yesterday during a stop on his The American Comeback tour at Utah Valley University.

Graphic video from the tragic scene showed a single shot striking Kirk in the neck before he fell to the ground and the crowd went running. As of right now, it doesn’t appear that any suspect in custody, though the FBI confirming this morning that they recovered a weapon and have surveillance footage of the shooter.

After the shooting, there were plenty of people – on the left and right, both those who agreed and those who disagreed with his political views – who took to social media to express their sympathies for Kirk, and especially for his wife and their two children, who will now be forced to grow up without their father.

Many country artists from both sides of the political aisle spoke out against the heinous murder, including Kane Brown, who took to his Instagram to share a photo of Kirk with his family alongside a simple breaking heart emoji.

And he also shared the same sentiment for the victims of the shooting at Evergreen High School in Colorado, which wounded two students and happened just after Kirk was shot:

(I’ll admit, between everything that happened yesterday and the video that’s been going around of that poor woman being brutally murdered on the train in Charlotte, it’s been a terrible week to be on the internet. I’m used to seeing disturbing stuff, but this week has even gotten to me. Check on your people).

Well as you could probably expect, some people weren’t happy with Kane Brown for showing sympathy for Kirk, and began messaging him some pretty disgusting comments as well as criticizing him for speaking out, including one that said he “offended his ancestors” by paying tribute to a “racist bigot who didn’t believe in gun regulation.”

The comments clearly upset Brown, who posted a video to his story explaining that his message is simple: We need to do better.

“Guys, I apologize if I offended anybody. This is really not me picking sides. This is just a f—ked up world post, honestly. That we all need to do better. There was a school shooting today, and there’s been thousands of school shootings. I want to pray to those families as well. I want to pray to Charlie’s family. I want to pray to anybody out there who has had a family member’s life taken by someone who wanted to hurt them, or them being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don’t understand why it has to happen, and that’s my only thing…

We live in a f—ked up world. And y’all trying to pick sides, is showing me.”

And he also posted a more animated video, calling out those who misinterpreted his message:

“I’m getting mad, man, because I don’t know what to say. I’m very uneducated on this stuff. At the end of the day, dude, all I want is everybody to love each other. That’s really all I want. That’s really all I want. Left side, right side, black, white, different language speaking, different country living.

Just love each other. If you see somebody down, please pick them up. I’ve been crying for two hours… I don’t do politics. That’s not for me. I just want y’all to love each other, bro. It’s really not that hard.

Just love each other, dude, help each other out. I’m just going to end the video there. I love you guys and I hope…if you need to hear it, I love you and I want you to go and hug somebody else that you love and tell them that you love them, okay? Pick them up make them feel special. I’m going to leave it there. God bless you guys I love you good night.”

And listen, it’s no secret that we don’t have the best relationship with Kane Brown. We’ve made fun of his music quite a bit, and he doesn’t particularly like us either.

But I thought it was important to share his message here, because it’s bigger than music and he’s spot on: There’s entirely too much hate and division, and it’s because people are so desensitized from being able to hide behind a keyboard and say whatever they want on social media without consequence. It’s dehumanizing, and it’s turned too many among us into people who are unable to see the humanity in others, even when we disagree.

As Kane says, just love each other, whether you agree with them or not.
