“But hey, when your best friend was a pedophile and you’re losing bigly in the swing states with an election coming up, what do you do?”

Jimmy Kimmel is using President Donald Trump’s own words against him.

Days after Trump launched strikes on Iran without congressional authorization, the late-night comedian and host trolled the politician by bringing up all of his past comments in which he claimed that former President Barack Obama would one day start a war with the country.

“Trump is suddenly all about toppling regimes,” Kimmel said on Monday’s episode of his talk show. “Which is interesting, because I remember a time when the idea that a president would start a war because he couldn’t make a deal was seen by some as a negative.”

The footage then cut to a 2011 clip of Trump in which he warned that “our president will start a war with Iran because he has absolutely no ability to negotiate,” adding, “He is weak and he’s ineffective.”

“Oh, look at that! Another prediction he got right!” Kimmel exclaimed. “Nostradumb-ass has done it again!”

He continued, “But hey, when your best friend was a pedophile, and you’re losing bigly in the swing states with an election coming up, what do you do? I’ll tell you what you do: you fire the weapons of mass distraction.”

He then showcased a 2012 Fox News interview with Trump in which he claimed that the U.S. would “end up in a war with Iran because I think Obama views that as politically good for him.”

The former reality star reaffirmed that he believed “somewhere before the election, we will end up in a form of war with Iran. And I think he’s [Obama] doing it for political reasons.”

To which Kimmel quipped, “And since Obama didn’t do it, Trump said, ‘Well, why not? I’ll do it.’”

Kimmel even read one of Trump’s 2012 tweets in which he alleged that Obama would “launch a strike on Libya or Iran” because he was “desperate” and his “poll numbers are in a tailspin.”

“I guess at least we know why he did this?” the host responded.

Kimmel noted that “only one in four Americans, by the way, believe the U.S. made enough of an effort at diplomacy with Iran before using military force” against the country. He added, “That includes many from his MAGA base, who feel that Trump violated his promise to keep us out of foreign entanglements and regime change.”
