Actor Jeremy Renner, known for his stint in the Marvel movies, recalled the horrifying snowplough accident, which he survived in 2023. He appeared on an episode of The View, which was filmed in May but was released on August 5, to promote his memoir My Next Breath. During the conversation with the hosts, the 54-year-old talked about his life-changing accident.

On New Year’s Day 2023, Jeremy Renner was crushed by a 14,000-pound snowplough when he jumped out of a cab to try and save his nephew from being mown down. The accident left him with 30 broken bones. In his memoir, the actor mentioned, “I know I died–in fact, I’m sure of it” on the driveway to his house.

Jeremy Renner Recalls His Near-Death Experience

At the show, when Jeremy was asked by co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin what he remembered from the horrifying accident, he told her that it is difficult to talk about. “But I realise that, in time, there are so many shared experiences that people have when they have a near-death experience. It’s like a real thing. And how congruent they all are, the similar experiences. And I think it’s quite beautiful,” he added.

Furthermore, the Hawkeye actor continued that the only thing people take with them is love. He said, “I can say this — love is the only thing that you take with you. It is the only thing essential and that exists only in life here now in our bodies and in our spirit. It’s the DNA of our spirit. Love is the only thing that really matters. Like, hate can’t exist. It only exists on the coattails of love.”

Sharing that he was in a “pretty beautiful place” moments after the accident occurred, he joked, “Sadly, I got ripped back from this beautiful space into a busted old body. I saw my eyeball and my twisted legs, and I’m like, ‘OK, I got to figure this out.’”

Jeremy Renner’s Near-Death Experience Reminded Whoopi Goldberg Of Her Film Ghost

Jeremy Renner’s words reminded The View’s co-host, actress Whoopi Goldberg, of her film Ghost, which also led her to win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the 1991 Academy Awards. Reflecting on the message of the film, she said, “There are lots of reasons to try to remain when you feel you’re on your way out. That’s the movie Ghost. It’s love — you take it with you. That’s the last thing he says, I think, to Molly. So, it’s good to know it’s not just a movie line.”

The film centred around the love story of Sam Wheat, played by Patrick Swayze and Molly Jensen, played by Demi Moore. Sam is killed over a shady business deal, and he dwells on earth in purgatory. When he comes across the psychic medium Oda Mae Brown, played by Whoopi, he learns the truth about his murder. He asks her to help him expose what happened and protect his love, Molly.
