Jelly Roll Shares What Finally Forced Him to Lose Weight

Jelly Roll has been on a serious health kick over the course of the last year or so, and during a recent chat with Eric Church, the country superstar shared what originally inspired him to lose a massive amount of weight.

Church and Jelly Roll sat down for a mutual interview called “The Conversation” on Friday (Feb. 21), which took place in downtown Nashville on the final day of the 2025 Country Radio Seminar.

During the informal discussion, Church admitted that he didn’t feel like he handled his transition from struggling artist to stardom very well, and he asked Jelly Roll how he’s been faring in his life away from the stage as his career has shifted into overdrive.

“I’ve handled it really well,” Jelly Roll said.

He shared that he played hundreds of dates in the year he experienced his breakout, and “I realized that I had gotten up to about 530 lbs. And I realized that if I was going to work as hard as God has gave me the opportunity to work, it was going to kill me if I didn’t do something about my health.”

The “Liar” singer said he didn’t try to sugarcoat it to himself.

“There was no way I was gonna live to be 50 years old. I was never gonna have the Eric Church career I dreamed of or close to it, if I didn’t do something about the health. I couldn’t do all the emotional stuff, all the travel, all the physical work … and at that weight.

“So once I got the weight off, dude, it’s been soaring,” he said, adding that he has already lost 145 lbs., and intends to keep on going.

Jelly Roll released his current album, Beautifully Broken, in October of 2024. He is spending much of 2025 on the road to promote the project.

Jelly Roll just visited hi old school to talk to the students there.

This comes a month after a rather horrifying incident that took place there last month, where a 17-year-old male student shot two of his classmates before turning the gun on himself. The altercation resulted in two fatalities.

At Antioch High in Tennessee, the Son of a Sinner crooner discussed the tragedy with the students there as well as the staff.

Jelly’s visit was shared via social media by Metro Nashville Public Schools, with the caption, “Music superstar @jellyroll615 visited @antiochbearshome on Tuesday to talk to students and staff about the tragedy that took place there last month.”

“Thank you, Jelly Roll, for reaching out to the Antioch community and offering some comfort during a difficult time. We appreciate your support!” they further noted.

This is also not the first time the Halfway to Hell singer paid a visit to his old school, with his previous appearance being in May 2024.

Over this, his wife, Bunnie XO reminded how her husband, who has been to jail over 40 times, was previously warned that he would “never be allowed back.”

The wife to Jelly Roll, wrote on her TikTok at that time:

“They told my husband he would never be allowed back into his high school when he was younger. Last week I got to watch him walk the halls again, perform + be welcomed by the kids and teachers. The love and giving back that they showed my husband was the sweetest thing ever to watch. But most importantly the smiles on those kids faces was priceless + what I truly needed in that moment. Thank you Antioch High School students + staff for the warm hug we needed that day. Go Bears!(sic)”
