Their first-ever duet.
Today, Jason Aldean released three new songs from his forthcoming album Songs About Us, which features a duet with Jason and his wife, Brittany Aldean, called “Easier Gone.”
Jason Aldean met Brittany Kerr (now Aldean) in September 2012 at a bar while he was still married to his first wife, leading to public photos of them kissing that caused a scandal. Although their relationship started controversially, they began dating publicly in March 2014 after Aldean’s divorce, eventually marrying in 2015.
They shared two young children together, in addition to Jason’s older daughters from his previous marriage, and Brittany is a Charlotte, North Carolina, native who actually auditioned for American Idol in 2012, making it to the Hollywood rounds after impressing judges like Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson, but was eliminated before the live shows, eventually pursuing a different career path.
At the time, she was dancing for Charlotte Bobcats’ (now the Charlotte Hornets) dance team, the Lady Cats, and she performed “Spoiled” by Joss Stone for the judges, though Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson were quick to say yes before she even sang a note, and she ultimately, JLO said no to her, but clearly it’s all worked out in the long run. Brittany did get to travel to Hollywood to continue in the competition, but she was knocked out before the contestants even got to perform in front of a live audience.
But clearly she still has some sort of dream to sing country music, and she got to show off her vocals on this new song with her husband, which I imagine had to be a pretty neat experience. Of course, Brittany is no longer actively pursuing a country music career, but when your husband is a country superstar, I guess you take the opportunity to sing with him when it comes.
Of the album as a whole, Jason says it encapsulates ” the highs, the lows, and everything in between” in his life:
“This album is about real life. The highs, the lows, and everything in between. Every song started from a real place, and when it all came together, I realized these really are songs about all of us.”
Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, two-thirds of Lady A, wrote “Easier Gone” with Jimmy Robbins and Josh Kerr, and it finds the Aldean’s reflecting on the lingering emotions of a bad breakup and how hard it can be to move on.
Brittany has a few solo verses, so it’s not just her providing background vocals for her husband, and she sounds solid, not all that different from her Idol audition many years ago. The song itself is pretty generic, to be honest, but it’s definitely an interesting listen given the fact that this is the first time they’ve ever recorded an official duet together.
Songs About Us is due out everywhere on April 24th, 2026. You can listen to “Easier Gone” below.
