Tommy Fleetwood’s breakthrough PGA Tour win marked by absence of his wife Clare
The two have a 23-year age difference

Tommy Fleetwood’s long road to PGA Tour victory came to a triumphant end at the Tour Championship, where he finally clinched his first title and a $10 million prize.
The English golfer, 34, secured the career-defining win with a calm final round of 2-under 68, sealing a three-shot lead and breaking a years-long drought after 164 attempts on the PGA Tour.
While the moment was celebratory, one important person wasn’t on hand-his wife and longtime manager, Clare Fleetwood. She chose to watch from home rather than attend the event in person, despite the historic nature of the victory.
According to the source, she feels ‘inferior’ when people always associate her age with her whenever she appears with her husband.
Her absence sparked conversation, particularly because of past comments she’s made about public scrutiny over their 23-year age difference.
Navigating love, work, and public perception
Clare, 57, has spoken openly about how others’ opinions once created emotional stress in the early days of their relationship. Appearing on the “Performance People” podcast in 2023, she explained, “It was kind of not actually for us, but it was just thinking what other people are thinking… I was a little bit paranoid about all that, really.”
Though the age gap wasn’t a problem internally, public perception created its own challenges.
The couple’s relationship began in 2015, when Clare, already working as a sports agent, met Tommy through his brother. At first, Clare hesitated to take things further, joking that she turned him down initially, saying, “Don’t be stupid,” because of their age gap.
But love eventually won out, and the pair married in 2017. They now share a son, Frankie, and live in the United Arab Emirates along with Clare’s two older children from a previous marriage.
Despite the personal connection, Clare never stepped away from her professional role. She continues to manage Tommy’s golf career in full, overseeing everything from sponsorships and PR to logistics and finances.
“Maybe sometimes too much,” she admitted, saying the dual roles make her think deeply about every aspect of their life together – personally and professionally. “I don’t see it as a lifestyle choice necessarily… I’ll look at it as a business choice as well.”
Fleetwood’s win on Sunday was especially sweet after a series of heartbreaking losses earlier in the season, including final-round collapses at the Travelers Championship and St. Jude Championship.
Reflecting on the journey, Fleetwood said, “It’s easy to say you’re resilient, but it’s hard when you have to be… I feel lucky I’ve had to show that side of myself. And I feel lucky that it’s paid off.”
