Nashville Wants To Rename Its Airport After Dolly Parton And Yes There's A Petition

Nashville could soon have the Dolly Parton International Airport, if fans have their way. On Change.org, a petition is currently circulating to rename the Nashville International Airport after Parton instead. Not surprisingly, it already has more than 48,000 signatures on it. It offers a compelling argument as to why Parton should be honored.

“As proud citizens of Tennessee, we are motivated by our deep-rooted admiration for the national treasure and Tennessee legend, Dolly Parton,” the petition says in part. “She is not only a celebrated artist who encourages love, acceptance, and goodwill through her music, but also a philanthropist, known for her countless contributions to society. It is only fitting that an institution as significant as Nashville International Airport carries the name of such a remarkable woman.”

The petition goes on to cite the “substantial impacts” Parton has had on so many, including her Imagination Library. It’s just part of what the petition says that makes Parton a “deserving candidate” to honor with the new airport name.

No one works harder than Parton. In addition to her more than 60 years of making country music, Parton also has her own Dollywood theme park, new Broadway musical, her own wine and beauty products, a new Songteller hotel, and more. The 79-year-old recently added to her business empire, by launching her own Dolly’s Joleans line of jeans. The jeans are in reference to her iconic “Jolene” song.

The new jeans are available in partnership with the popular clothing brand, Good American.

“I’ve always believed what you wear should make you feel as fabulous as you truly are,” Parton says. “And this brand new line, Dolly’s Joleans, is all about celebrating individuality with a touch of sparkle. I’m inspired by Good American’s ability to create clothes that make women feel confident and ready to shine!”

“Dolly Parton is a true icon whose influence transcends generations, and partnering with her on this collection is an incredible honor,” adds Emma Grede, CEO and Co-Founder of Good American. “Together, we created a collection that embodies self-expression and embracing what makes each of us unique.”
