Insiders say Liam’s tragic death has brought the band closer again

FORMER One Direction stars Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik are reuniting in a multi-million-pound deal for a Netflix road trip show.

Filming has already started on the documentary, which sees the pair travel across the US.

It is expected they will discuss their lives and memories of being in the boyband — as well as tragic bandmate Liam Payne — during their mammoth voyage.

The show is likely to drop on the streaming giant next year — exactly a decade after the band split up, with both Louis and Zayn pursuing solo careers.

And news of the Netflix show comes a year after Liam died aged 31 after falling from a ­hotel balcony in Argentina.

The remaining 1D members — Louis, Zayn, Niall Horan and Harry Styles — came together for the first time since 2016 at Liam’s funeral in November.

Insiders said his death had brought them closer again.

A TV source said: “This will be an absolutely huge show for Netflix and is guaranteed to whip 1D’s global army of fans into a frenzy.

“Although the idea of ­British boyband members doing a show about travelling across America sounds random, most of them now have strong links Stateside.

“And it’s likely to be a chance for some serious soul-searching and deep discussions about the incredible journey the group have already been on since they were formed on The X Factor 15 years ago.”

One Direction’s love affair with the US began in 2011 when they travelled to Malibu, California, to film the video for their debut single, What Makes You Beautiful.

It helped them to become huge stars in the UK, America and across the globe.

They went on to win seven Brit Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, six Billboard Music Awards and seven American Music Awards.

The band were the world’s best-selling artists in 2013.

Louis, 33, spends huge amounts of time in America as he has a nine-year-old son with US stylist Briana Jungwirth.

Zayn, 32, has lived in the States since 2018, when he moved from the UK to be with his then-girlfriend, model Gigi Hadid, in New York.

He now resides in Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, for the past decade Niall, also 32, has owned a five-bedroom mansion in the Hollywood Hills near LA, which he bought for £3million.

As his solo career in the US developed, 31-year-old Harry also had various homes in both Los Angeles and New York, but in recent years has been buying more properties in London.

The new road trip project is likely to see Louis and Zayn focus more on themselves rather than the many locations they visit along the way.

The two singers were recently pictured together in a bar in New York during their travels, but onlookers were oblivious to the fact they were making the Netflix show.
