Where men with big bellies are more attractive

In the Ka’el festival of the Bodi tribe, men with bigger bellies are considered more beautiful and attractive.

The Bodi tribe in southern Ethiopia, Africa, holds an annual festival to honor the men with the “biggest” bellies. To prepare for this important event, participants must undergo a grueling 6-month fattening journey.

In the Ka’el festival of the Bodi tribe, the bigger the belly of a man, the more beautiful and attractive he is.

According to Oddity Central, the person with the biggest belly wins the competition, earning the title of “Fat Man of the Year” and the respect of the entire tribe. To win, men in the Bodi tribe must follow a diet of cow’s milk or yogurt, cow’s blood and honey for 6 months before the festival.

During this time, they stop all physical activity and stay in tents and consume the most caloric foods. The women of the tribe are responsible for caring for the men preparing to compete.

During the fattening process, some gain so much weight that they can barely move. But it is a sacrifice they are willing to make to gain the tribe’s respect.

The Ka’el Festival usually takes place in June or July. Men cover themselves with clay and ash to display their fat bellies to the public. After the festival, their bellies shrink back to their normal size within a few weeks, as they stop their diet.

The winner’s reward is fame and respect. This is a great honor, because the winner is considered a local hero for the rest of his life.
