Lainey Wilson showcases evolved country-rock flair at Nashville's Ascend Amphitheater

This Monday (February 17), Lainey Wilson notched her eighth career No. 1 with “4X4XU” from her latest album Whirlwind. Written by Wilson, Aaron Raitiere, and Jon Decious, the track topped the Mediabase country chart this week. The announcement came just days after the “Watermelon Moonshine” singer said “yes” when her longtime boyfriend Devlin “Duck” Hodges popped the question.

It’s safe to say that Wilson has plenty to celebrate lately and that’s what she and her band did yesterday. She took to social media to share a video of them performing her newest No. 1 in the studio. “4X4XU went number one so we’re celebrating here in the studio today,” she said before the band launched into the song. Interestingly, Wilson isn’t just singing in the video. She’s playing a washboard, adding a little extra percussion to the hit.

In the caption, Wilson wrote that she and the band “took a break from working on new music” to celebrate their latest achievement. So, it seems that the Louisiana native isn’t content to rest on her laurels. Instead, she plans to keep doing what she has been doing since she came to Nashville more than a decade ago–working hard and writing songs.

Lainey Wilson Lands a Meaningful and Timely No. 1

Lainey Wilson doesn’t have many love songs in her catalog. Before she released Whirlwind she said she would add a couple to the new album because she finally had a man in her life worth writing songs about. Her love for Hodges inspired her to pen “4X4XU.” So, it’s fitting that the song went to the top of the chart just days after the couple took their relationship to the next level.

“I’m very proud of that song,” she told Vanity Fair. “We actually wrote that song in 30 minutes, which is crazy for me because I don’t write songs in 30 minutes. Normally, it takes me six hours, and then we might come back to it again the next day,” she explained. “That one just fell out of the sky, and it just felt right and it flowed,” she added.

“It’s about keeping your people close and the ones that remind you who you are and what you stand for, and remind you to stick to your guns and stay true to yourself,” she said of the hit song. “Those things make me feel at home.”
