Kathy Griffin responded to the soap star and Trump critic’s dismissive remarks on Threads, writing, “It’s not just about political disagreements anymore.”

Nancy Lee Grahn has no interest in beholding Carrie Underwood.

The General Hospital actress, who has portrayed Alexis Davis on the iconic soap opera since 1996, reacted to Jimmy Kimmel hosting the “Before He Cheats” singer on Jimmy Kimmel Live alongside her fellow American Idol judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan this week.

“See ya next week @jimmykimmel,” she wrote on Threads on Thursday. “I refuse to even look at @carrieunderwood.”

JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" airs every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. ET and features a diverse lineup of guests that include celebrities, athletes, musical acts, comedians and human interest subjects, along with comedy bits and a house band. The guests for Thursday, January 23 included Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood ("American Idol"), Mike Epps ("Mike Epps: Delusional" and "The Upshaws") and musical guest Men At Work.

While Grahn didn’t explicitly explain why she was against Underwood’s appearance on the show, many Threads users assumed it had to do with the country star’s perceived political affiliation with President Trump.

One such user was comedian Kathy Griffin, who hit Underwood with a nickname that invoked Trump’s Make America Great Again slogan. “I’ll watch ya! Yeah, no love for MAGA Carrie,” the comedian replied to Grahn’s post. “It’s not just about political disagreements anymore.”

Grahn previously speculated about Underwood’s political leanings in a December post. “I thought everyone knew Carrie Underwood was MAGA,” she wrote. “She’s American, all right, but certainly no Idol.”

After her comments about Underwood’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live received media attention, Grahn clarified her opinion on Kimmel in a follow-up post on Saturday morning. “I LOVE Jimmy Kimmel & watch him every night,” she wrote. “I would never ‘slam’ him. I simply said I would watch him next week because I didn’t want to look at Carrie Underwood (for obvious reasons), who was his guest that night.”

Representatives for Underwood and Jimmy Kimmel Live did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for comment.

Underwood’s name has been tied to Trump since she performed at the president’s second inauguration in 2025. “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood said in a statement o EW at the time. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Grahn herself is an outspoken critic of the Trump administration. On Thursday, she wrote, “Trump doesn’t have dementia. He’s just a malignant ghoul with a rotted soul. Sadly there’s no amendment to get rid of that, just a Republican congress benefitting from the billionaires benefitting from Trump. It’s a coven of rotted souls worshipping power and money and willing to annihilate humankind to have it.”

Trump recently upset GH fans by holding a press conference that interrupted the soap’s usual broadcast on ABC on Tuesday — and Grahn took the opportunity to take another jab at the president.

“Dear General Hospital fans, I’m sorry you weren’t able to watch today due to another orange implosion,” she wrote. “GH will air on Hulu. If you don’t have Hulu, @mauricebenard and I will recreate each scene through interpretive dance at a later date.”
