Elon Musk and Sam Altman continue to spar on Musk’s social media platforms, after Altman shared a story about ordering a Tesla Roadster but having trouble canceling it.

The confrontation between two famous technology figures Elon Musk and Sam Altman once again erupted on the social network X owned by Musk himself.

The two co-founded OpenAI, where Altman now serves as CEO, but after parting ways, they have publicly criticized each other in posts, lawsuits, and public statements.

The latest controversy began when Sam Altman published an article titled “a tale in three acts”, sharing that he had pre-ordered the Tesla Roadster sports car in 2018 with a deposit of $50,000 (equivalent to about 1.32 billion VND). However, after more than 7.5 years of waiting without the car being released, he decided to cancel the order and request a refund, but the email sent to Tesla was returned.

“I am really excited about the car! I understand the delay, but 7.5 years is a long time to wait,” Altman wrote.

The second-generation Tesla Roadster was announced in November 2017, but has been repeatedly delayed. Elon Musk, as CEO of Tesla, recently announced that the car will be “re-released” in a finished version by the end of this year.

Shortly after Altman’s post, Musk responded with the tweet, “You stole a nonprofit,” reiterating his long-standing accusation that Altman and OpenAI “betrayed their original mission” by transforming from a nonprofit to a for-profit company. Musk had previously sued and sought to block OpenAI from reorganizing as a public benefit corporation.

Musk has also launched a direct competitor to OpenAI, xAI, and is currently suing OpenAI and Apple, alleging that the two companies “colluded to stifle competition in AI.” In response, Altman called this “a stunning allegation… especially given what I’ve heard about Elon using X to his advantage and harm his competitors.”

In the latest development, Musk posted a rebuttal to Altman, claiming that the OpenAI CEO “forgot about the fourth act of the story,” that “the issue was resolved and the deposit was refunded within 24 hours.” Musk wrote: “But that’s just who you are.”
