TikTok Is Absolutely Ruining The Lyrics To Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas”

Never going to be able to listen to the song the same way again.

Ella Langley‘s latest single “Choosin’ Texas” is easily on its way to becoming one of the biggest songs of her career. After being released back in October, the Miranda Lambert-penned tune has already become her first career #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and is currently sitting at #5 on the all-genre Hot 100.

The song is the fastest-rising female solo song to reach the country radio top 10 in a decade, and has blown up over on TikTok…although some people over there may have ruined the lyrics forever for me.

Chances are, you’re probably familiar with the REAL lyrics:

“She’s from Texas, I can tell by the way
He’s two steppin’ ’round the room
And judgin’ by the smile that’s written on his face
There’s nothin’ I can do
It doesn’t take a crystal ball to see
A cowboy always finds a way to leave
Drinkin’ Jack all by myself
He’s choosin’ Texas, I can tell”

But as it turns out, those lyrics aren’t what everybody hears when they listen to the song.

There are a couple of “misheard” versions that are going around on TikTok – and they give the song a whole new (and generally NSFW) meaning:

Yeah, that’s not at ALL what she said.

Earlier this week though, Ella was speaking on her just-announced sophomore album Dandelionand said that she wants the album to feel like “the best kind of Sunday afternoon,” so maybe that really is what she’s saying…

And that’s not the only reimagined line that people are sharing:

Completely ruined the song for me. Seriously, I can’t scroll TikTok now without seeing somebody butchering the lyrics:

(Those lyrics should be “I’m eastbound and down and I can’t help but cry, ’cause I-40 gets lonelier with every mile,” just in case you aren’t familiar).

I guess I’m just never going to be able to listen to the song the same way again.

Ella’s upcoming album was just announced this week, featuring 18 tracks and produced by Ella herself along with Miranda Lambert and Ben West. Along with “Choosin’ Texas” (or whatever interpretation you have of it), Ella says that the album contains songs that her fans will be able to relate to:

“This record has so much growth in it. I’ve never poured more of myself into a project, into a song, into an idea, and it’s fallen out so beautifully. It’s about learning yourself, making mistakes, and realizing that it’s all just part of life.

I want this record to be something that fans can relate to, but also something they want to get up and dance to at the same time. To me, this record feels like fireflies in the summertime. It feels like windows down on a red dirt road. It feels like the best kind of Sunday afternoon.

It feels like those days I remember as a kid where it felt like there weren’t enough hours in the day. This record is really a love letter to that.”

I can’t wait to hear it. But please TikTok, for the love of God, please don’t ruin the rest of the album for me too.
