Josh Peck got the real tea during Drake Bell‘s appearance on his “Good Guys” podcast — why he feuded with Justin Bieber years ago.

During the Monday, March 24, episode of Peck’s “Good Guys” podcast, the former costars reflected on the evolution of their friendship, revealing where they stand now after a public falling out — and of course, the Biebs.

Why Did Drake and Justin Feud?

It all started with a tweet — but not just any tweet. Drake admitted, “I met him one time. I never, [the feud] wasn’t even with him.”

The whole thing began when Drake retweeted a picture of Justin that had been edited with makeup on. It was a good edit, but Drake didn’t realize the Beliebers would come for him. “I didn’t know about Beliebers,” he said, recalling how the retweet quickly turned into a storm of hate. “And all of a sudden it was like ‘kill yourself, die. Everything you’ve ever made is trash. Drake & Josh is trash.’”

Drake laughed about the whole thing, saying, “Sometimes I can’t keep my thumbs to myself.” Despite the backlash, he made it clear that he never had a problem with Justin. “I never really had a problem with Justin Bieber. He’s a really great artist,” he explained. In fact, he never even thought Bieber would see the tweet.

“In my mind, Justin Bieber is, you know, he’s on an island with Selena Gomez buying gold,” he admitted. “I see him as untouchable — the hell would he see a tweet from me?”

Where Do Drake and Justin Stand Now?

But then, Drake had an eye-opening run-in with Justin’s former manager, Scooter Braun, that made him realize just how big the internet’s reach really was.

“I actually saw Scooter at Bootsy Bellows one night, and so I go up to him, and he asks, ‘Is that really you on Twitter? Is that like somebody else?’” Drake recalled. “I’m like, ‘You see that?’ He says, ‘Yeah, Justin does too, man. He’s bummed. Drake & Josh was like his favorite show growing up.’”

Drake couldn’t believe it. “Sometimes I don’t connect the fact that this guy that’s tweeting from his bed at 6 in the morning has ears around the world,” he laughed. That moment really hit home for him, as he realized just how much influence his words had — even if he didn’t mean them that way.

Years later, Drake ran into Justin at a hotel, and while their interaction wasn’t anything major, it stuck with him. “I had an interesting encounter with him, but it was whatever,” Drake said. “The bummer is we probably would get along.” Looking back, he seemed to regret how things went down, but acknowledged that sometimes you just don’t realize the consequences of your actions until it’s too late.
