Donald Trump shares the ‘amazing’ comment Tiger Woods has privately made to him about Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy secured his spot in golf’s most exclusive club earlier this year, with his victory at The Masters seeing the Northern Irishman complete the Career Grand Slam.

It is going to be fascinating to see how Rory McIlroy‘s career is reflected upon in the years to come. The 36-year-old is one of just six men to have won all four of the tournaments currently recognised as majors.

Of course, McIlroy had to wait more than a decade for his fifth major triumph. And he certainly seemed to do everything he could to ensure that he left Augusta National without the green jacket upon his shoulders.

McIlroy won his first four majors before turning 26. With that, some will wonder if he has managed to realise his full potential, particularly as he rarely seemed to be in genuine contention in the majors between 2015 and 2021.

What Tiger Woods told Donald Trump about Rory McIlroy

There is no questioning his talent.

McIlroy has one of the most aesthetically-pleasing swings on the PGA Tour. There are few sights more impressive than when he has a driver in his hand and the freedom to be aggressive.

In fact, Tiger Woods seemingly believes that he is the greatest he has witnessed off the tee, as Donald Trump told Kai Trump in a video this week.

“Rory’s got a great swing. Tiger told me that Rory is the best driver that he’d seen. And for Tiger to say that, that’s amazing, right, because Tiger is great at everything. But he said Rory’s the greatest driver he’s seen,” he said.

Donald Trump names his favourite golfers of all time

Golf certainly appears to be Trump’s great passion. Of course, he owns a number of iconic golf courses around the world. It seemed that his election was going to prove to be the catalyst for the PGA Tour and the PIF to agree some sort of merger.

He has definitely seen many of the greatest players of all time. So perhaps it is no surprise that he could not respond with one name when asked who his favourite player ever was.

“Tiger, Jack [Nicklaus]. I love Jack. I love Gary Player. They’re such great athletes, they’re great. I love them all. But I think Tiger, Jack, Gary. I love Bryson [DeChambeau]. I think Scottie’s going to be great too. He already is, but Scottie’s great.”

He may be the greatest driver of the ball Tiger Woods has seen, but it seems that Rory McIlroy has some work to do before he is amongst Trump’s favourites.
