Following the wedding of billionaire Jeff Bezos and former journalist Lauren Sanchez over the weekend, Vogue published a photo shoot and interview during the bride’s final wedding dress fitting in Milan in early June. The 55-year-old former journalist revealed that she felt like “a princess” as she tried on her custom-designed Dolce & Gabbana wedding dress. “It felt even more powerful than I thought it would,” she said.

Lauren Sanchez said Jeff Bezos begged to see the wedding dress, but she wanted to keep it a secret. “I almost said yes,” she admitted. “But I wanted it to be a surprise. When you get a little older, there aren’t many surprises anymore. I couldn’t wait to see his expression.”

The white lace dress, which hugged her body and flared out into a mermaid tail, was inspired by Sophia Loren’s wedding dress in the 1958 film “Houseboat.” It took 900 hours of work at the Italian house’s tailors. According to Vogue, the former American journalist began planning the wedding dress a year and a half ago, over dinner at designer Domenico Dolce’s New York apartment overlooking the Hudson River.

Jeff Bezos’ bride revealed that her 11-minute space flight in April changed her perspective on wedding dresses. “It went from ‘I want a modern, simple, sexy dress’ to ‘I want something that evokes the moment’ and where I am right now. I’m a different person than I was five years ago,” Lauren Sanchez shared.

The Amazon boss’s fiancée revealed that the couple followed some traditional wedding rituals, such as the groom not meeting the bride before the wedding day. Lauren Sanchez said she borrowed a pair of diamond earrings from Dolce & Gabbana to wear on her wedding day.

The power couple’s wedding has been the most talked-about event of the past month. In addition to the bride and groom’s names, the star-studded guest list has also attracted attention. However, bride Lauren Sanchez said the “wedding was extremely private” with 70 relatives out of 200 guests. Designer Stefano Gabbana told Vogue : “She wanted a very classic and elegant wedding. She didn’t want to do something too flashy.”

Lauren Sanchez was escorted down the aisle by her sons Nikko and Evan at the wedding. Her 17-year-old daughter, Ella, served as maid of honor. According to Vogue , Ella also wore a Dolce & Gabbana dress and gave a speech at the ceremony. “Ella is very individualistic, always doing things her own way. She’s never tried on clothes before and she loves it. She’s going to look amazing. It’s been really fun dressing all the kids,” Lauren Sanchez told Vogue .

The Amazon founder and the former journalist, five years his junior, got married in Venice after two years of engagement. This is the second marriage for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. Both have children from previous marriages.
